'Jesus said to them, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you." When He had said this, He breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit."'
Take a deep breath.
In... Out... Again. In... Out... And again. In... Out...
It is phenomenal how religions across the world look to the simple act of taking a breath as the center of the spiritual life. Many people think about this in connection to meditation an eastern rights but breath is also at the heart of Christianity. In both Greek and Hebrew (the two languages of the Bible) the word for "breath" is the same as that of spirit. In Genesis 2 God gives Adam life by breathing his breath into Adam's nostrils. In the Gospel of John, Jesus, after his resurrection, commissions his disciples as apostles by breathing on him. We call God the "Holy Spirit" which could just as easily be translated the "holy breath."
The simple act of breathing deeply can calm our fear, heal our panic and give us new perspective. There are so many things that breathing can teach you, but today I am focused on what it has to teach about giving and receiving.
Every second we take or release a breath. That means every second for us to remain alive we either receive oxygen or give carbon dioxide. God made us so that we would be constantly giving and receiving with the rest of his creation, and if we opt out of that cycle too long we die. Our survival depends on our giving. Our survival depends on our receiving and when we focus on that rhythm we find peace.
Take a breath. Breathe in appreciation for all your blessings. Breathe out a prayer of thanks giving. Breathe in a prayer of confession. Breathe out a prayer of absolution. Breathe and remember that life is a gift each and every second. Breathe and remember that life is a gift both received and given.

We have created our own unique approach to Sunday School. Approximately once a month we have a large gathering for all ages where we teach a Bible story. The weeks leading up to that Sunday School consists of people coming together to help discover, create and implement the upcoming GIFT Sundays. There is a fresh leadership team for every month, but all are welcome every Sunday whether you will make it to the GIFT or not. The best way to know the Creator is to create. Join us for the learning and fun!

For Prek-3rd grade (on non-GIFT Sundays) we will be using a special curriculum that uses Legos to teach the Bible. As Rev. Les put it, "This method is simple, and beautiful and powerful and it is the first accessible Sunday School curriculum I have ever seen that truly empowers the soul of a child."
For 4th grade-Adult we have created our own unique approach to Sunday School. Approximately once a month we have a large gathering for all ages where we teach a Bible story. The weeks leading up to that Sunday School consists of people coming together to help discover, create and implement the upcoming GIFT Sundays. Children's Chapel is available at our 10:30 service. It is a place for children to worship in the traditions of our faith but in a way that's geared towards Pre K - 3rd grade. A procession will guide the children to the chapel in the beginning of the service and the kids rejoin their families for Communion.
We have a great group of youth. Warm inviting and impressive. They generally meet Sunday afternoon from 12-1:30 pm, but check the schedule for more information.
