Lend A Hand
"At St. Aidan's there are too many people clammoring to support each of our confirmands than can fit."
It has been four days and I am still on a high from Bishop Fisher's visit on Sunday. I don't know if it is because I have been at the church now for long enough to see many of the youth grow from VBS kid to confirmand or why but while every confirmation is powerful and meaningful this one hit me particularly deeply.
One of the things we did on Sunday is invite whoever wants to to come up and lay a hand on the shoulder of the person being confirmed. You may not realize this but that is not a common thing in Episcopal confirmations. Most churches don't do that and I had honestly never seen that practice before I came here. I don't know if we will always do it that way (that decision is above my pay grade) and I saw something on Sunday in this practice that was particularly meaningful. At St. Aidan's there are too many people clammoring to support each of our confirmands than can fit. Which means that some people lay a hand on the shoulder who is laying a hand on another shoulder etc. until we get to the confirmand. I find that to be beautiful because while you (random parishioner of St. Aidan's) may not have metaphorically lent a hand to one of the those confirmands, you have made a difference in someone's life in the church, and that person has effected another etc. which means that even if you don't know one of the 11 people who were confirmed YOU PERSONALLY had a hand in supporting them as they made that commitment in their faith. Each confirmand stood to commit themselves in the presence of God to a life of ministry and yet no one stands in that alone. Each stands with their parish, a symbol of the church here, behind them and the bishop, a symbol of the church everywhere, in front of them. That is beautiful.
And it is so perfect that it happened in the middle of our stewardship season. As we pray about our commitments financial and otherwise to this ministry we see how our commitment to ministry supports others in their walk. What a joyous thing!

We have created our own unique approach to Sunday School. Approximately once a month we have a large gathering for all ages where we teach a Bible story. The weeks leading up to that Sunday School consists of people coming together to help discover, create and implement the upcoming GIFT Sundays. There is a fresh leadership team for every month, but all are welcome every Sunday whether you will make it to the GIFT or not. The best way to know the Creator is to create. Join us for the learning and fun!

Exciting New Developments in Sunday School!
This school year we are beginning some new and innovative Sunday School programming.
For Prek-3rd grade (on non-GIFT Sundays) we will be using a special curriculum that uses Legos to teach the Bible. As Rev. Les put it, "This method is simple, and beautiful and powerful and it is the first accessible Sunday School curriculum I have ever seen that truly empowers the soul of a child."
For 4th grade-Adult we have created our own unique approach to Sunday School. Join us for the learning and the fun.
Children's Chapel is available at our 10:30 service. It is a place for children to worship in the traditions of our faith but in a way that's geared towards Pre K - 3rd grade. A procession will guide the children to the chapel in the beginning of the service and the kids rejoin their families for Communion.
We have a great group of youth. Warm inviting and impressive. They generally meet Sunday afternoon from 12-1:30 pm, but check the schedule for more information.
