Did You Miss the “Inside Montessori” Screening
and the 1st Montessori Access Event?
We have you covered!
|
|
We had so much fun!
On Saturday March 2, 150 Montessori advocates and curious community members joined together to close Montessori Ed Week 2019 with a special screening of "Inside Montessori", and an engaging panel discussion about the state of access to Montessori education. The film is filled with beautiful images of Montessori communities from around the country and its powerful message sparked excitement to ensure all families have a option to choose Montessori education for their children.
You can
order a screening kit
to share this breathtaking film with your community! Following the film, the panelists took questions that explored challenges and opportunities to transform current programs to offer Montessori methods, expand existing programs to offer more seats, and open new schools to expand access.
One of our very special guests from the community shared this comment:
|
|
“We felt really honored to be there ... so appreciative
of the way you all welcomed us...thrilled and nearly
speechless about the documentary. We talked about
it the entire car ride back to our center.
Very excited to discuss ways we can bring Montessori
into the Somali community. The event was also the talk
of our teachers meeting on Saturday/Sunday night.
So excited to meet Barbara Williams!”

Speaking of honored...we feel boundless gratitude to our panelists for helping us kick-off the first in a series of events MNMN will host to explore increasing access.

Montessori Ed Week: It's a wrap!
|
|
It was another year of great celebrations and community building in MN during International Montessori Ed Week 2019!
The snow and cold can’t keep Minnesotans down! Over the course of the week, Minnesota celebrated with library displays, classroom activities and celebrations of all kinds. Many of you took the time to engage students and parents and let them share why Montessori is so important to them and their families.

Unfortunately, our impressive winter weather this year
did
cause the cancellation of the community’s traditional (and well-loved) MEW Kick-Off at St. Catherine’s University. Daisy Han, partner at The Wildflower Foundation and founding member of Montessori for Social Justice, was scheduled to be the keynote speaker and planned to speak about “Teaching for Liberation”. We missed hearing her!
We also missed connecting with everyone at the event and providing the annual reminder to invest in teacher wellness and stress resilience. We are grateful there is a
Preparing for Peace & Joy: A Self-Care Workshop for Educators
on April 6 from 2pm-5pm to ensure all our educators can take a much needed “time out” to restore themselves in order to continue to offer their best to the children they serve so passionately.
|
|
|
We wrapped up MEW with a MNMN sponsored screening of “Inside Montessori” at the Heights Theater in Columbia Heights. With popcorn in-hand, Montessori educators, students, alumni, alumni parents and education advocates enjoyed the first feature-length Montessori documentary, produced and directed by two MN, Montessori Moms, Jan Selby and Vina Kay. A panel discussion about Montessori Access in MN followed the screening and an amazing gathering of local experts reflected on challenges and opportunities the community faces to make Montessori available to ALL MN students and families.
