Message from Pastor Tim
Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,

I am very pleased to announce that the session of Ark and Dove has accepted the recommendation of the search team for interim director of music and has called Justine Koontz to be our interim director. Justine has her Bachelors in Music (composition and theory) from McDaniel College and her Masters in Music (choral conducting and theory) from Butler University in Indiana. She has served both Lutheran and Presbyterian churches as a choir director and plays the piano, as well as classical guitar. Justine, recipient of a Fulbright Student Research Grant (studied in Latvia), has already begun her work, and she will lead worship beginning this Sunday.  I think you will find her a very talented interim director and a very warm person.  I am looking forward to working with her.

You can find out much more about Justine at her website: www.justinekoontz.com.

I am grateful to our search team--Brian Boudreau, Laura Doughty, Laura Talbert, Wendy Wellington, Ryan Stavely and Stan Houck--for their industrious and thorough work, and to Christina Nelson and Terrance Byrne our interim interims. We very much appreciate your leadership and gifts.

See you on Sunday!

Peace of Christ,
Tim

Verse and Prayer
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."
- John 6:35
Great and glorious God, unite our praise with the praise of all creation: singing your mighty acts with every breath, playing music to your name with all our instrumnets, joining the dance of stars and planets with our our whole bodies; for you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are th Most High--Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.

Mission Ministry
Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake
Habitat for Humanity does more than just build homes for deserving families. In the fall of 2016, Habitat Chesapeake launched HabiCorps and became the first Habitat affiliate in the world to integrate job training with home building. After the 2015 Baltimore protests, a lack of training and employment opportunities were cited as contributing factors. Recognizing the need for gainful employment in many of the neighborhoods, in which Habitat was working , they took the opportunity to use the AmeriCorps model for true workforce development. The aim is to offer meaningful training to low-income, and often formerly incarcerated, individuals. Since then Habitat has guided 16 trainees through 10.5 months of intensive on-the-job training in carpentry and construction management. In addition Habitat Chesapeake works in partnership with Aerotek and fellow non-profit Project Jump Start, which guides trainees through resume writing and interview preparation. Through these two partnerships every HabiCorps graduate leaves with a job! Habitat Chesapeake says, "We could not be more proud of the HabiCorp program and the graduates who are bettering themselves, while building homes for families and communities in need."

This Sunday we will hear more about Habitat for Humanity from Gregg Mitchell, Chief Advancement Officer of Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake. Please continue to support Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake. You can DONATE ONLINE or with your Special Offering envelope. Thank you. Cheryl Schafer, Mission Elder, csscas@verizon,net.
Back to School with Anne Arundel County
The Mission Ministry is teaming up again this summer with the Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the Department of Social Services to provide school supplies for local elementary and middle school students.  Social Services matched Ark & Dove with 35 students at Meade Heights Elementary School on Reece Road.   After worship service, July 29 through August 12, we will have sign-ups and provide detailed instructions and the Meade Heights supplies lists. Ark & Dove donors will select a student to sponsor, purchase the backpack and supplies, deliver them to the school before August 30th, or bring them to church by August 26th for delivery. We will also be teaming up again with Meade Middle School to collect supplies they need to support their students. For questions, or if you want to sign up, but can’t do so at church, please contact Greg Makar (301-483-8255, GLMakar@juno.com).
CAP West County Food of the Month
Featured item for August is CANNED BEANS (red beans, black beans, chickpeas, etc.). Please drop off food items in the Mission Zone bin. Thank you for your donations!
Celebration Luncheon
Celebrating Great Music and Great Relationships
On August 19th we will be having a celebration luncheon in honor of Mark Edwards! For ten years Mark has been directing our band at the 11:00 worship service, leading our youth band, and has been a key leader for worship skills during our LOGOS program, as well as the annual GenOn Youth Summit. You can sign up for the luncheon beginning this Sunday after each service. An online sign-up will be available soon. If you’d like to contribute to a church-wide gift for Mark, you may drop it in a labeled envelope in the offering plate, or visit our giving page here. POCs: Amy Tardiff (itsmemim@gmail.com), Wendy Wellington (swt520@verizon.net).
Stewardship
Giving Statements
The new giving statements were emailed earlier this week to everyone except those who specifically requested a hard copy statement. Please check your email and let Steve Debus (steven.debus89@gmail.com) or Stan Houck (shouck@aol.com) know if you have any questions or did not receive the email. Please also “pardon our progress,” while the actual Giving Statements attached in the email worked as expected, we did have at least some issues personalizing the text of the emails. This will be corrected next time. For those who requested a hard copy, they will be mailed today, Friday, August 3.
Christian Education
Godly Play Workshop!
Everyone is invited to a Godly Play workshop being held on August 26th, immediately following the second service. Come and experience Godly Play in action as Amy Tardiff, Ark and Dove's Godly Play organizer, leads us through a session. This is a great opportunity to see what Godly Play is all about. Light picnic-style lunch will be provided. Please RSVP to Amy Tardiff, itsmemim@gmail.com or Laura Rockwell, laura.a.rockwell@gmail.com.

Administration
Search Committee Progress
The music director search team is making great progress! We are ready to post a job announcement to different music schools, area churches and choral director networks. In anticipation of the upcoming interviews for the position, our next task will be to refine our questions for prospective candidates. Please continue to pray for the team and our search efforts. Antiracism and Social Equity
The Human Library
Anne Arundel County Public Library presents

Saturday August 18
10am-3pm
Odenton Regional Library

As part of our ongoing education at Ark and Dove surrounding the issues of antiracism and social equity, this event might be of interest to members of our congregation. The Human Library is designed to build positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialog. "AACPL's Human Library seeks to engage our community in civic conversation by providing an opportunity for people to connect one-on-one with those whom they might otherwise never have a chance to talk with--people who may have life experiences, stories and beliefs different from their own. The Human Library is a place where real people are on loan to readers, and where difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered."  Check out this event, and check out a living book to learn about a different culture or community through questions and conversations. Deacons' Corner
Prayer Partners and the Board of Deacons
The Board of Deacons provides care and assistance to members and friends of Ark and Dove. Presbyterian deacons are nominated by our nominating team, elected by the congregation, ordained for their ministry, and installed for a three-year term. At Ark & Dove we have nine deacons, and each is assigned a portion of the congregation according to last name. Each deacon also has another ministry area, such as meals coordinator and Stephen Ministry coordinator. The current deacons and their assignments are listed on the Ark & Dove website.

One of our ministry areas is the congregation-wide email group called Prayer Partners, currently led by Patriceo Green. As Christians and Presbyterians, we believe in prayer as real and powerful action, not just a supplement to actions we take with our hands and feet. Just outside the sanctuary on Sunday mornings before worship, there is a paper for writing down prayer concerns for worship, and these prayers are added to Prayer Partners email list the next day or so. At our monthly deacons meetings we name these prayer concerns out loud (session does this too).

If you would like to join Prayer Partners, please send a message to admin@arkanddove.org, or to Patriceo (patriceobgreen@gmail.com). You can also contact Greg Makar, the current moderator, for more information about the deacons (GLMakar@juno.com, 301-483-8255)
