What's wrong with LR18CA and LR19CA?

LR18CA and LR19CA are State Constitutional amendments that would place reproductive freedom at the same level as our founding and inalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. In fact LR18CA places reproductive freedoms between Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Make no mistake, reproductive freedom in these bills is the right to kill unborn babies. What would our founding fathers think about a foundational phrase of: Life, Liberty, the Killing of Unborn Babies, and the pursuit of Happiness? Are these fundamental rights a nation can survive on? I think not! Our Founders sought to protect all individuals due to the fact we are made in God's image and human life doesn't just possess intrinsic value but also sacred value.

LR18CA destroys our foundation!

There is a strong and determined force to remove or hide the Christian beliefs our country was founded on. But like any structure if you remove or weaken its foundation it will fall. Our founding phrase list our inalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. These rights proudly broadcast our Christian faith. Genesis chapter 1:27-28 tells us "God created man in his image, in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them, saying "Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on the earth.".

These two verses tell us so much about our country's foundation. Life - God made us in his image, Liberty - God created us to have a relationship with him. In any relationship both sides must freely choose the relationship, thus we have free will. The pursuit of Happiness - God created all things, then gave us dominion over them. The right to have property and free markets.

In stating the obvious, nowhere does God give us the right to kill unborn babies. In fact he commanded "Thou shall not kill".

LR19CA provides protections, but for who?

LR19CA tries to rationalize that "every individual has a fundamental right to reproductive freedom". Senator Hunt's, this bill's sponsor, idea of 'individual' and 'freedom' is grossly different from our founders and what Scripture tells us. What is an unborn child if not an individual who has the same right to life and freedom as anyone else? Doesn't an unborn child have the same inalienable rights as anyone else?

This bill also provides exemption of prosecution for the mother and the medical personnel who provide the abortion. In legal terms (and almost prophetic ones) this bill states that it is "self executing". The irony is that the only thing being executed in this bill is the child itself.

How to be heard?

Take action, your voice is powerful make it heard. LR18CA and LR19CA committee hearing is scheduled for Thursday, March 16, 2023.

How to be heard? Here are three ways:

Most Effective: Testify in person. Going to the Committee hearing and sharing YOUR story with committee member Senators is very impactful. For first time in person testifier here are some helpful hints.
Very Effective: Submit written testimony. If you can't be there in person then submit written testimony. Not sure how to do that, click here. Note; written testimony needs to be submitted by noon the business day before the committee hearing.
Effective: Email your position letter to the Committee Senators and CC your own Senator. For a listing of the Health and Human Services Committee Senators click here. Note; emails need to be sent by noon the business day before the committee hearing. It's not likely these emails will be included in official hearing minutes though there is a better chance Committee Senators will see your comments. You can request they be added to meeting minutes in your email to Committee Senators.

Here are three strong arguments to oppose this legislation:

“Reproductive freedom” contradicts the three inalienable rights of our Constitution: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All three are gifts from God. They are gifts which must be carefully guarded and treasured or they will be lost. The opposite of life is death, the opposite of liberty is bondage, and the opposite of “pursuit of happiness” is the dismal condition of regret. "Reproductive freedom represents death, bondage, and regret.

Adding "reproductive freedom" protections would forever take away the small protections unborn children currently have. It would remove any future chance for our state to provide full protection to these children.

We can't continue to weaken our State's and Nation's foundation of Christian faith. There has been a long attack on the family. We are seeing the family erode with society following. Adding reproductive freedom to our State Constitution not only kills innocent unborn children it continues to erode the family.
