Mustangs finish season with amazing run in CIF playoffs!
The Mustang football team finished their amazing run in the CIF playoffs falling just short of beating a very athletic team from Santa Clarita Golden Valley.
The Mustangs, for the 13th consecutive week, fell behind early as the Grizzlies blocked a Costa punt, which led to their wide receiver making a spectacular catch in the end zone for the early lead. However, the Costa boys responded with a 32 yard touchdown pass from QB Nick Carpino to Cole Trejo, who made an amazing catch in the end zone. A few series later Golden Valley responded with another TD pass. A pivotal play occurred late in the 2nd quarter. Faced with a 4th and 1 on their own 32 the Mustangs opted to punt. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies’ punt returner fielded the ball and returned it 69 yards for what would eventually be the winning touchdown. Despite being down at halftime 20-7 the Mustangs fought back. Cross Country wrapped up their season with individual and team success at the State Meet in Fresno!
Xavier Court had the best finish for the Mira Costa boys Cross Country team. He ran to a 15:19, 6th place finish in the boys Division 1 race! Way to go Xavier! Full Boys Varsity race results  HERE .
The girls raced to a 8th place team finish, placing better than they were ranked. The team was led by Olivia Hacohen in 36th place in 18:45. Lucy Atkinson was the 2nd scorer for Costa with a time of 18:55, Brooke Inouye next in 19:07, followed by Pnina Tofler in 19:37 and Serene Azafrani in 19:56.   Way to go girls! Full Girls Varsity race results  HERE .

Costa recognizes 12 Senior Athletes on College Signing Day!
On National Signing Day, 12 Costa athletes that are planning to play a sport at the Collegiate lever were honored. The athletes will be playing a variety of sports which include girls volleyball, girls beach volleyball, baseball, rowing, and girls basketball.

Congratulations to these student athletes who signed their NCAA letters of intent!
These universities are very lucky to get our Mustangs next year!

Costa Surf Team starts season strong!
The Mira Costa Mustang Surf Team is having a fantastic season and remains undefeated in decisive wins over PV Peninsula High, South Torrance and the 2017 NSSA National Champions Huntington Beach High. The team beat Huntington on Tuesday 80-64 in the most serious surf conditions many of the surfers have ever faced. The contest was a setting of both power and intensity. Costa’s Surf Team is deep with talented surfers in all disciplines: Men’s and Women’s Shortboard and Longboard. The next contest will be against PV High the week of December 11th, at Torrance Beach. Go Costa Surf!!
 
Girls Tennis advances to to Round of 16 in CIF Individual Championships
Congratulations to the doubles team of Olga Nagy/Audrey Vo of Mira Costa. They advanced to the round
of 16 of the CIF Individual Championships by defeating Michelle Hung and
Nicole Condas of Sage Hill High School, the Academy League Champions, 6-0
and 7-6(1). Olga/Audrey will next play in the Round of 16 on Wednesday,
November 29 at the Seal Beach Tennis Center.
Catch up on Costa Choir accomplishments!
For the 11th year, Vocal Ensemble traveled to its annual Fall Festival this year, Biola University High School Festival, on the Biola campus. Some of the best Chamber Choirs from Southern California attend this festival to perform for each other and receive comments from an adjudicator. This year’s adjudicator was Dr. Craig Arnold, Director of Choral Activities at Brigham Young University. The interesting piece this year was Mr. Hayden was serving on a jury in downtown Los Angeles and was unable to be present for the performance. Read more
MCHS Marching Band and Colorguard go to SCSBOA Championships plus don’t miss The Winter Concert

The Mira Costa High School Marching Band and Colorguard wrapped up their season with back-to-back tournaments on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017. In the morning they performed in Oxnard’s “Keeping the Music Alive” Field Show where they placed 1st in Band, 2nd in Percussion and won the Tournament Sweepstakes for Auxiliary. Read More
Drama updates on ComedySportz and Spring show!
Mira Costa’s ComedySportz Team competed against Redondo Union High School on Friday, Nov. 17th, in a rematch that pitted the two comedic improv teams against each other in a hilarious showdown. Costa defeated Redondo in a decisive victory with a score of 38 to 32. A great time was had by all! The Costa Girls Basketball teams kicked off the season with their annual Green and Gold Event, starting with a scrimmage between all teams, followed by a delicious dinner. This event was organized by the Green and Gold Chairs, Shari Gong and Gloria Lo. The HS games have started in high gear with both Varsity and JV teams playing in the Downey Shoot Out, followed by the Mark Keppel Tournament for the Varsity girls and the South Tournament for the JV and Frosh girls. The Girls Basketball season has officially started!
Costa Girls Soccer Team beats El Segundo 2-0 in first game of season!
The Girls Varsity soccer team beat El Segundo 2-0 in the first preseason game of the year.
After the first half, the girls were connecting passes and working the ball around the field. Through teamwork and communication, the team responded with two goals. The first goal was scored by Emma Binks, which was followed by a second goal by Kayla Brunick to win the game.
 
Costa Boys Soccer begins preseason games!
In the first game of the season last Tuesday, Costa suffered a tough 2-0 loss at home to a very strong Loyola team. The 3 senior captains: Goalkeeper Andrew Fasano, Midfielder Keyan Torabi and Forward Robert Cook, led the team with strong performances.
Last Thursday, Costa played again at home on the brand new field, beating Culver City 5-0.  Read more
The Varsity Boy’s wrestling team wrestled at the Warrior Invite at West Torrance High School on Saturday, December 2nd. The team did great and won the tournament for the first time ever!
1st Place – Mira Costa 187 1/2 points
2nd Place – West Torrance 183 1/2 points
3rd Place – Redondo 79 points
Boys Wrestling Team takes 1st place in Warrior Invite Tournament and Girls Wrestling take 5 individual 1st places in Tournament.
Orchestra rings in the holidays!
On Friday, December 1st, the Mira Costa Orchestras entertained the community with their Winter Concert at Mira Costa Auditorium. Under the direction of Mr. Peter Park, all of the orchestras; including the newest orchestra group called Sinfonietta, took turns playing selected classical and popular holiday music. Read more
2017 Cyber Partriot Competitive Season Underway!
Eleven student-led teams are representing Mira Costa in the Cyber Patriot Competition, sponsored by the Air Force Association and presented by Northrop Grumman. The competitive season commenced during the weekend of November 3rd with teams being measured not only on their technical execution skills through Windows and Umbutu images, but also their conceptual knowledge of networking through a quiz.
