Miracles Are Natural
Though the Course promises that miracles are natural, as humans we've taught ourselves the unnatural habit of disregarding our connection with Spirit. We tend to cover up that still small voice within with activities of the ego's agenda. We forget we've got instant access built into the blueprint of our minds and need only open to the space of our hearts.
Years ago, I was almost out of gas in a compromised neighborhood on the north side of Milwaukee. In spite of fears for my possible safety, I pulled into a station where a few cars with vibrating sound systems rocked the station yard. Several young men eyed me up as I went about the business of filling up the car.
As I stood there, across the lot, I could hear another older car trying to start up, but the engine wouldn't engage. All I wanted to do was get gas and be out of there. But an internal voice urged me to go over to that car. I could feel the eyes of those men upon me as I inevitably walked toward the grinding gears.
The windows were dirty and dark and I couldn't see inside the vehicle. As I approached, the drivers side window opened, revealing a young woman desperately trying to start up her car. I asked how I could help, maybe she could use my cell phone to call someone? Then I saw a pair of darling twins, about two years old, strapped into the back car seats.
My heart melted in compassion as I saw them. She didn't know what was happening with her car; she just wanted to get home to feed her babies. I glanced up to the sky thinking 'now what?' and felt something surge through me, like electric love and it seemed to encircle her car. So I said, "why don't you try it again?"
And to both of our amazement, the car fired right up! We both laughed out loud, tears squirting out our eyes, neither of us knowing how to explain what just happened. Woman to woman, heart to heart and love over fear, became an instant miracle. "I guess you just needed to come over here," she said.
By then, the guys in their booming vehicles, nodded to me as I walked back to my car. Any sense of fear disappeared and we smiled while driving away.
