Mirja Heide's RefreshFotos Newsletter
News2
Hello!

Greetings from RefreshFotos. I hope you're having a terrific summer.

This month I'm excited to launch a new design for my email newsletter. I hope you will find it beneficial and enjoyable. The newsletter will be emailed twice a month and will include news, tech tips for using Windows and Mac computers, iPhones and iPads as well as a listing of apps, books and tools I recommend.
A clickable Table of Contents at the top of the email will lead you directly to specific sections of the newsletter. If for any reason you do not wish to receive these updates, click SafeUnsubscribe at the end of this email.

You will also find a schedule of the upcoming classes I'll be teaching. I'm truly excited about these new classes and the new location! Classes will be held in a delightful meeting room at the Miracle Mile Plaza Business Center, which is located on the 3rd floor of the Bank of America Building.

A complete list of classes may be viewed on my website. I'll be adding more in the coming weeks. If you have thoughts on specific topics you'd like to see covered in a class, please let me know. I'm open to ideas!

Thank you & all best wishes,
Mirja

Back Up Your Computer

No matter whether you're using Windows or Mac, it's extremely important that you back up your computer regularly. Errors happen. Computers crash. And it's usually not until something goes awry that you realize how much is on your computer that you don't want to loose...precious photos, your contacts, important documents, to-do lists, typed letters, emails and if you're volunteering or in business, lots, lots more.

It's easy to forget if you don't have an automatic backup. It's also easy to postpone to another day if you feel that you don't want to back up your computer until it's organized. Back it up as is. It's better to have your files available, than not at all.

Three good options are:

1. An online backup subscription service, such as Carbonite or Backblaze.
2. An external hard drive attached to your computer.
3. Both! You can never have enough backups.

If you're going to choose between one or the other, I would recommend an external hard drive from Seagate, Western Digital, Toshiba or Lacie. Make sure the drive is compatible with your operating system, Windows or Mac. If you're using Windows, also make sure the drive comes with automatic backup software. If you're using a Mac, you have the option of using Time Machine, a backup application that comes with the computer.
Check Your Backup

Once you have the automatic backup in place, it's also important that you check it periodically. Confirm that the software is backing up your files regularly and that you can access the files stored on the drive. Check at least every 6 months, or more often if you're creating and saving new files regularly.
