With Pride in the rearview mirror, the Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church (RMCC) congregation finds itself reflecting on our 53-year journey and excited for things yet to come. As we move cautiously forward into our new reality, our church continues to find ways to “Demonstrate God’s unconditional love through Christ-like action.”

In doing so, RMCC offers a variety of programming to help its congregants connect and grow spiritually while developing a sense of belonging. Offerings provided can be accessed on campus or virtually to meet the needs of our church family and those seeking a new faith-based church to call home. Like our communion table, spiritual growth programming is open to all of God’s children both young and old.

Our Next GEN Group, comprised of young adults and our more seasoned congregants, have united to learn from each other’s experiences and perspectives. This unique group has taken an active role in leadership within the church filling two Deacon positions and guiding spiritual growth programming throughout the week. The Next GEN Group meets virtually on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. CST for Bible Study to learn how the bible impacts our lives and develop practical ways to ‘Demonstrate God’s unconditional love through Christ-like action’.

Wednesday nights offer two programs, a virtual Book Study facilitated by Rev. Vicki Sheil-Hopper and an on-campus Bible Study by Rev. Mona Lopez. Both programs run from 7:00-8:30 p.m. CST.

Thursday nights are focused on God Talk facilitated by Rev. Dr. Carol Keisling from 6:30-7:30 p.m. CST. This offering provides participants opportunities to reflect on thematic reflections.

Regardless of the program you choose to attend, each interactive offering will engage you in analysis, reflection, and discussion. By connecting with one, two or three of the four offerings provided by the Next GEN, Rev. Vicki or Rev. Mona, you will be incorporating the most important commandments stated by Jesus.

Mark 12: 30-31 “Love the Lord with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”

As you look in the mirror in the morning and before bed, reflect on those commandments and actualize them by connecting, learning, and growing with the RMCC community.

Like the ‘things may appear larger than they seem’ signage on sideview mirrors on our vehicles, finding ways to connect with others and feeling a sense of belonging may seem distant and difficult. At RMCC, you only need to take the first step. God will always make time in our busy schedules to connect, learn, and grow. Look in the mirror, take a deep breath, and ask God to navigate your ever-changing world with the peace and love only God can provide.

God Talk: Conversations About Faith, Society and

Self-Love with LBGTQ+ Christians

Weekly Thursdays 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm CST

“God Talk” is another way of saying ‘Theology’, in other words: how we think and talk about Divine Presence. Many LGBTQ+ people have been hurt by oppressive or toxic theology, the kind of messaging that describes God as condemning and cruel. These wide-spread messages are often subtle, perhaps from well-meaning sources, so we don’t even realize how we internalized them. The trauma can run deep! No wonder so many people have difficulty developing a relationship with the Sacred.

Resurrection MCC strives to build community to heal those wounds. This group is a safe haven to explore, question and discover how God works in and through us, regardless of who we are or the societal labels we carry. We will discuss our imaginings of the Divine in our lives and hear from people whose partnering with God brings meaning and hope into their lives. We seek to reframe our thinking and expand our imagination to move into a broader understanding of the God of Love.

Imani Vida Drum Circle

Imani means Faith in Swahili, and Vida means Life in Spanish. We are a group of diverse individuals of the Greater Houston Area who love to come together in community and make music together. We make music through all sorts of percussion instruments...hand drums, shakers, rain sticks and even the sound of foot-stomping music. Drummers of all skill levels are welcome. No prior drumming experience is required to participate in our circle. Dancers are welcome too! We only ask that you bring your desire to be apart of our community drum circle.
