Perek 6 is a remarkably easy perek to work through! There is really only one principle at work, and that is that when it comes to determining the halachik scope of a person's neder, the criterion we employ is our best understanding of what people colloquially mean when they use particular words. In other words, we don't use technical "dictionary" definitions, rather what the words mean in context and in conversation.
One interesting expression of this arises in Mishna 6, which (on theme) distinguishes between the strictly halachik definition of "meat", i.e. anything that would be regarded as fleishig in kitchen kashrut terms, and what people typically mean when they talk about eating (or not eating) "meat." A similar theme is sounded in Mishna 7.
I also found to be interesting the assertion in Mishna 8 that the juices of fruits are NOT included in a neder concerning the fruit itself. I wonder whether this would continue to be halachikly true in our own era, when "fruit juice" is actually something that we manufacture, purchase, and consume. To stay on the safe side, I'd advise you to not take a neder that you won't eat oranges if you desire to keep drinking orange juice :).
