Get ready for summer reading! June 1 – Aug. 21

Summer reading is a beloved tradition at public libraries across the country. The goal has always been simple. Keep kids reading so they’re ready to return to the classroom in the fall. We’ve expanded that concept and created a summer reading program for all ages. Everyone can enjoy the benefits of reading for fun and earning rewards. Register and track your progress online or pick up a printed reading log at the library. Complete the challenge and end the summer with a feeling of accomplishment! The program begins June 1.

Oshkosh Poet Laureate 2021 Giving voice to community

The City of Oshkosh, in partnership with Oshkosh Public Library and the Convention and Visitors Bureau, is seeking applications for its first poet laureate. The new initiative hopes to enrich the lives of the Oshkosh community by highlighting literacy, sharing the values of poetry, encouraging creativity, and fostering artistic expression.

I am beginning a new chapter in my life. At Oshkosh Public Library, I have been given an awesome opportunity to do something I love for so many years. I have been truly blessed to present storytimes and take part in outreache to the children of Oshkosh. I have enjoyed sharing my love of books, stories and activities with children. The memories of smiles and laughter is something I take with me and will treasure always – the little boy who each storytime showed me his Thomas the Train - the little girl who in the middle of my “ladybug” story told me that the bug was actually a Japanese beetle. I will truly miss all my storytime friends. Thank you for giving me so much joy! Note: Miss Cathy’s kindness, humor and enthusiasm inspired a love of reading and learning in countless children. We thank her for 32 years of service and wish her well in retirement. If you’d like to email a note to Miss Cathy, we’ll be sure she receives it.

Staff Picks Time to kick back and unwind Fill your beach bag with some of the hottest books of the summer. Beach ready reads

Transfer your old VHS tapes to DVD or flash drive at the library. We now have a VHS conversion station available to patrons. Reserve an appointment online for one, two or three hours. Do you need a quiet place to work or study? Three private rooms have been opened for use by individuals or members of the same household. Reserve an appointment online for up to two hours at a time. Borrow a portable charger and power up three devices at the same time. Chargers are located next to the WiFi hotspots on the library’s first floor. Log into your library account to place a hold for convenient pickup inside the library.

What will you read, watch or do this month?

Request a Book Bundle for Kids. It’s like a personalized shopping service for young readers! This month’s Adult DIYers will receive supplies to make a Mini Pallet Coaster. Librarian Learns premiers a short history of The 44 Outdoor Drive In Theater which operated in Oshkosh from 1949 - 1986.
