One Heart. One Hope. One Mission.

MESSAGE FROM MISSION ADVANCEMENT

...thank you for being part of our great story!

SND pioneers at the beach circa 1925...

and those who followed in 2024

Dear Friends,

Tomorrow, August 30, marks the day when 11 SND pioneers disembarked from the train that brought them to California 100 years ago. With great faith, they stepped into many unknowns, but they were ready to follow the commission: "Go to California and build a house of love." It was their trust, our trust in God's goodness and provident care that brings us to this moment in our history.

We will celebrate this milestone with a Mass of Thanksgiving on Saturday, August 31 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paschal Baylon Church in Thousand Oaks. Follow this link for a livestream of the Mass, with Archbishop José Gomez as the main celebrant. We also offer our gratitude to Fr. Michael Rocha and the staff of St. Paschal Baylon Parish for their hospitality for this event!

Once again, we wholeheartedly thank you for being part of our great story. We are humbled to call you friends and we promise our daily prayer for you and everyone you carry in your hearts—all the days of our lives.

Gratefully,

Sr. Lisa Megaffin, S.N.D.

Director of Mission Advancement Services

East African SNDs share gratitude and hope

Sr. Christine Symbua and Sr. Therese Marie Nabakka visited California during August and gave updates on the East African missions of the Sisters of Notre Dame in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. They spoke with friends and donors at St. Dominic's School in Eagle Rock, St. Julie Billiart Parish in Newbury Park, and Notre Dame Center. Follow this link for a video of the presentation they gave to various groups while they were in the United States. Here is an archive of previous presentations; we hope you enjoy the impact of your support!

St. Matthias High Class of '64

Celebrates 60th Anniversary

The pioneer class of St. Matthias High School recently gathered to celebrate 60 years since their graduation. To acknowledge this occasion, Sr. Mary Antonine Manning, one of their teachers, provided her congratulatory remarks. Follow this link to share her love for them... Sr. Paulynne Tubick and Sr. Gina Marie Blunck were members of that class.

Care for Creation Corner

The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation began in 1989 when Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew started the day for the Orthodox. The day was intended to be a time of thanksgiving for creation and prayer for its protection. In 2015, Pope Francis announced that the Roman Catholic Church would also recognize September 1 as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

Here is an inspirational video which includes highlights of Pope Francis' message on the 2024 theme, "Hope and act with creation." Perhaps this video may be useful for both personal and group reflection...
