One Heart. One Hope. One Mission.
...marking 171 years of the SND charism family!
Dear Friends,

Friday, October 1 will be a day of grace for all of the Sisters of Notre Dame, and each of you, our friends and donors. We celebrate the first formal step of Hilligonde Wolbring and Elisabeth Kuhling who established the Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1850 in Coesfeld, Germany. They certainly had no idea of the long-term impact of their acceptance of God's call. They were keenly aware of the needs of local children, especially the orphans, but had no idea that in God's providence, their vision and mission would extend beyond the world as they knew it. They were inaugurating a "charism family" of everyone who has shared in their graces over the decades.

These many years later and many miles away, we gratefully embrace the awesome gifts of their charism, spirit and mission. Just as the stars in the sky are countless, the members of our "charism family" also seem countless. Through the sharing of their spiritual gifts and the ripple effects of the graces of the Holy Spirit, many lives have been and are now being enriched. Thank you for your generous support for the Sisters of Notre Dame. As you read this, please feel the gratitude of each Sister of Notre Dame and each person (near or far) entrusted to our care. Celebrate with us: Happy Birthday, SND Charism Family!

Blessings always,
Director of Mission Advancement Services
...thanks for joining us!
Renewing friendships...above, Donna Howard, Sr. Kristin Battles, Sr. Patricia Beirne, RSM, and Sr. Suzanne Krawcyk, RSM; and to the right, Michelle Bubnis, SND Associate Jenny Ocegueda-Reynosa, Claire Hickey and Sr. Kathleen Burns. Michelle and her husband Charlie traveled from Texas for the event!
Sunday, Sept. 12 was predicted to be a very hot day in Thousand Oaks, but a cool breeze, the joy of fellowship and the global update presentation by Sr. Kristin Battles, SND Superior General, Sr. Kathleen Burns and Sr. Mary Ann Culpert, made it an awesome celebration of God's goodness and provident care!

In case you missed it, here are links to the presentations:

And special thanks to the hostesses from La Reina High School & Middle School! A resounding comment from in-person and virtual participants has been "I had no idea of the extent of the SND mission..." So thank you for your encouragement and support, enabling our mission to touch thousands of lives!
Congratulations all around town!
Cathedral exhibit showcases
250 years of Los Angeles
Catholic history

As chancellor of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Sr. Anncarla Costello assisted in creating an informative display for the 250th anniversary of the Catholic Church in Los Angeles. In the photo above, she is shown at the exhibit with Fr. David Gallardo, pastor of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

A recent article in Angelus tells the story. Follow this link for more.

With the Mass being celebrated in 42 different languages, the area's diversity is evident. As Sr. Anncarla noted, photos highlighting the variety of Catholic faith traditions are meant to show us "what the church is now in Los Angeles and, really, what its future is."

A Jubilee Year through Sept. 10, 2022 will celebrate these 250 years. Learn more at
Notre Dame Academy Elementary
marks 75 years:
"NDA is in our DNA"

Sunday, September 12 found the community of NDAE celebrating 75 years of quality Catholic elementary education. Students, alumni, past and current parents and staff gathered for a Mass and festive brunch.

Sisters of Notre Dame in attendance were also honored for the founding vision and spirit. Students presented traditional sunflowers to the SNDs present. Shown here are Sr. Gina Marie Blunck, Sr. Luellen Boeglin and Sr. Jolisa Lazaro.
In her remarks, Ms. Lilliam Paetzold, president of Notre Dame Academy Schools of Los Angeles, commented: "Well there is no end to this story. NDA is in our DNA. Its story lives on in all of us no matter how old we are or how far away we go. It is passed on from generation to generation..." The SNDs congratulate the entire NDA community on this great landmark!
Photo opps with Pope Francis
at the SND BBQ!?!
At the recent SND barbecue in Chardon, Ohio, Sr. Jenny Zimmerman and Sr. Val Roxburgh hosted a vocations/young adult information table. Fellowship abounded as they met many new friends. The cutouts on sticks were popular with people who wanted a unique selfie portrait--or perhaps Pope Francis stopped by himself?
