Mission Central follows the Cumberland Valley School District for closings and delays. We will update our Facebook page and website as well.
We have highlighted our staff for several months, so now is time to highlight a very important group that completes much of the work here at Mission Central… our volunteers!

THANK YOU, VOLUNTEERS!

Over 7,500 volunteers collectively give over 23,000 hours annually. (This amounts to about $585,000 in revenue and endless accomplishments!) We are grateful for our volunteer teams – those that come out each week as well as those that came out periodically. Without our volunteers, we couldn’t serve over two million people with between $6-8 million in resources every year! Thank you!

We are always looking for new volunteers to fill existing and new volunteer positions.

One position that we have an immediate need for is managing our donation door. We currently have seven highly skilled individuals that work the donation door Monday through Saturday. We are looking for others to join this group. On the job training will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity to assist in our warehouse and directly see the impact of your work.

We also are looking for varying other positions and skills. Some are needed consistently and some are needed only occasionally. This list includes:

·        Electrician
·        Plumber
·        Cleaner
·        Photographer
·        Social Media Ambassador
·        Videographer
·        Program Assistant
·        Spiritual/Theological Leader
·        Earth Keeper/Creation Justice Team Member
·        Medical Coordinator
·        Typist
·        Proofreader
·        Communications Team Member
·        Registrar
·        Form Manager
·        Others

If you are able, please fill out the attached form . If you have a skill that isn’t referenced here that you are willing to share with us, please list it here as well.

Thank you for your willingness to assist and give to Mission Central!

Activity at Our HUBs...

For Martin Luther King Day 2020, the Berwyn HUB opened their doors to the community and projects that would go to help people worldwide. Throughout the building, they set up work stations where people could assemble Hygiene Kits and School Kits, design and prepare greeting cards for shut ins, cut and sew pads for feminine hygiene kits, and cut plarn and use it to crochet sleeping mats for the homeless.

The Cleona HUB was invited to come and share their plarn project. Plarn is plastic yarn made from recycled plastic shopping bags and then used as yarn to create new items. Gloria Risser, a member of Immanuel UMC, Cleona, brought mats she had crocheted and demonstrated how to get started with crocheting the plarn. Three volunteers from the Cleona HUB joined Gloria as she offered instruction and tips to the group for crocheting the homeless mats.

A variety of ages and interests attended and shared in the activities including children from the day care that meets in Berwyn UMC. It was truly a day of bringing together people to “ connect God’s resources with human need .”

Item of the Week - Blue/Black Pens and Notebooks

We are in need of blue and black pens as well as either 8.5 x 11 spiral or composition books for our kits.

Thank you for your support!

The Mission Central Gala is coming March 28, 2020. We invite you participate with us in several ways:

  • Advertising and Sponsorship – Our sponsorship and advertising packages can be found here. These are great opportunities for churches to promote and advertise.
  • Donated Items - We are seeking donated items that can be used in either our silent or live auctions.
  • Tickets – Tickets can be purchased on this link. They are $70 each or $500 for the table (seats 8). This is sure to be a night with fun entertainment and fellowship. We hope to see you there!

I f you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Titzel (Director of Development and Communications) by phone (717-766-1533) or email (stitzel@susumc.org).
At Mission Central, we are blessed with amazing volunteers every day! Just last year, over 7,500 volunteers donated over 23,000 hours of service to Mission Central.

If you know someone who has made an impact at Mission Central or to a Mission Central HUB, now is the time to nominate them for one of these Volunteer of the Year awards!

Just click the link below and fill out the appropriate form (Mission Central Volunteer of the Year and/or HUB Volunteer of the Year) to nominate your volunteer.

Please mail or drop off your nomination to Mission Central. You can also email it to Stitzel@susumc.org. Nominations must be received by January 31, 2020. The 2020 recipients will be recognized at the Mission Central Gala on March 28, 2020.
