Lay Preaching Academy
October 18 - November 22
|

This fall we will be offering a six-week Zoom seminar for new or relatively new lay preachers. The sessions will be offered on Sunday afternoons from October 18 to November 22, from 1 pm to 2 pm. There is a limit of twelve participants, so signing up early is encouraged.

Voices of Faith features lay people from congregations across Western Massachusetts.
We hope these videos can lift us out of silos of congregational life, help us deal with social-isolation, and open us to the broad diversity of our Diocese, and the diversity of experiences that people have with God.

Mientras nuestro país continúa abriendo escuelas y negocios, no olvidemos seguir cuidándonos unos a otros en medio de esta pandemia. Cuando usamos nuestras máscaras y la distancia social, no solo nos protegemos a nosotros mismos, sino que también protegemos a nuestros hermanos y hermanas en Cristo en la comunidad. Es tan fácil cansarse. Yo estoy cansado. Esta pandemia ya ha durado tanto tiempo. Pero superaremos esto juntos. As St. Paul ends his letter to the Galatians, he offers them one last message: “Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up. So then, let’s work for the good of all whenever we have an opportunity…” [Galatians 6:9-10]. As our country continues to open schools and business, let us not forget to continue to care for each other in the middle of this pandemic. When we wear our masks and social distance, we are not only protecting ourselves, but also protecting our brothers and sisters in Christ in the community. It is so easy to go tired. I am tired. This pandemic has lasted so long already. But, we will get through this together. Below are opportunities to connect with your church during this time. A Gathering on Liturgical Formation

The Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music (SCLM) will host a Gathering on Liturgical Formation, a formation opportunity on the liturgy of the Episcopal Church. This event will be held online via Zoom teleconferencing from October 19 - 20.
This symposium will help articulate current initiatives of the SCLM and Taskforce for Liturgical and Prayer Book Revision (TFLPBR) in preparation for the 80th General Convention; respond to current liturgical anxieties of the wider Church; produce fruitful conversations across a wide range of backgrounds; and provide resources for cultural competence in planning liturgy. The topics of these webinars include: The Purpose of Liturgy; The Church Calendar; an update on the TFLPBR; and The Book of Common Prayer.

This virtual consultation will address the impact of human activity on the planet, the urgent need for action to obtain sustainable and resilient communities, and the development of recommendations for moving forward. Two keynote presentations and eight concurrent workshops will be supported with web-based materials and social media tools to equip participants. This watershed moment requires action by all, especially faith voices of insight and hope.
Registration deadline is Sept 22.

The results of this once-a-decade count determine the number of seats each state has in the House of Representatives. They are also used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.

Thousands join three-part Becoming Beloved Community NOW webinars on racial justice
|
[Episcopal News Service] The Episcopal Church’s Becoming Beloved Community NOW, a three-part series of webinars on different aspects of the church’s racial reconciliation work, was overwhelmed by interest in the Zoom sessions this week, both in registrations and in replay of the videos on Facebook.
The webinars were hosted July 28-30 by a church committee known as the Presiding Officers’ Advisory Group on Beloved Community Implementation, which sought to harness the momentum across the church generated by recent nationwide protests against racial injustice and police brutality. The webinars’ views indicate that momentum hasn’t subsided.

Leadership and Anxiety in the Church: A Family Systems Perspective |

Lombard Mennonite Peace Center: This seminar looks at the challenge presented by the rising levels of anxiety being experienced in churches today, as well as the role that self-differentiated leadership can play in calming such anxiety. Identical sessions will be offered on September 24 and December 3.

Virtual Episcopal Latino Ministry Competency course |

“Combining academic learning with hands-on experience, the purpose of this multi-faceted intensive course is to provide cultural competency of the history, culture, socio-demographic, and religious aspects of the Latinos/Hispanics in the United States,” explains the Rev. Canon Anthony Guillén, Episcopal Church missioner for Latino/Hispanic Ministries.
The five-day VELMC includes 20 hours of online classroom presentations, worship services, and group dialogue, with comfortable breaks and an ample lunch time factored in from 11:00am to 5:30pm (EDT) each day.
