LCCAA Creates Apprenticeship Program
Like many employers of all types across the country, LCCAA Head Start has been working hard to recruit and retain high quality staff.

To promote the profession, LCCAA is starting an apprenticeship program to engage area high school students interested in early childhood education.

High school juniors and seniors will graduate our program with experience and their Child Development Associate credential. This will allow them to take a job with LCCAA Head Start.

Heating Help Continues with Several Options
Winter heating assistance is available from a variety of programs through LCCAA.

If you are without heat or have received a disconnect notice, you may qualify for Winter Crisis help.

If you have heat but are struggling to pay your bill, you may qualify for HEAP or fuel funds from Columbia Gas.

Emergency situations qualify for an appointment with LCCAA staff, which will be conducted over the phone.

Wellington Renews Five Star Rating
Wellington Head Start's Five Star Rating has been renewed by Ohio's Step Up to Quality program.

All of LCCAA's directly operated centers have earned the highest rating from Step Up to Quality: five stars.

Ohio created its five-star rating system to recognize and promote early learning and development programs that meet quality standards over and above the minimum health and safety licensing requirements.

Since implementing the program, LCCAA Head Start has consistently maintained the highest ratings, said Director Shauna Matelski, Ed.D.

Step Up To Quality is administered by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
Don't Pay to Get Your Taxes Done
Don’t pay to get your taxes done! Lorain County’s free tax prep coalition is gearing up to again offer free tax preparation services for low-income households.

The coalition trains and certifies volunteer tax preparers through the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Since 1971, VITA has saved taxpayers filing fees and other high-cost services that can be charged by a private tax preparer.

The program targets households earning less than $60,000 a year or less. Volunteers can help households who are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. A number of people are expected to file for the first time this year due to the advanced Child Tax Credit Payments distributed in 2021 for COVID-relief.

LCCAA Committed to Diversity
LCCAA’s Inclusion and Diversity Committee was active in 2021. Special information on a variety of topics was offered to staff through the new wellness newsletter and the IDC was consulted on several policy issues.

In August, LCCAA created a dashboard system to monitor hiring and track diversity at the organizational and site levels. The new tool is shared with our board and serves as a daily resource for tracking job openings and meeting the different needs of staff.

These steps mean LCCAA is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion as an employer.

We are currently hiring for multiple positions at all levels of the agency. View the latest postings by clicking here.
