Cuba Partnership Report
Members of the Cuba Partnership Team of MOJC bring love, hugs and blessings to the members of Mission Presbytery from our partners in Cuba. And we mean MUCH love and MANY MANY Hugs and Kisses! Anyone who has visited Cuba knows how demonstrative they are in greeting and welcoming visitors. You read this summer about the trip the youth from two Austin Churches took and now we are excited to report on yet another more recent trip to Placetas, Cuba.

From December 4-10, 2019, a group representing Mission Presbytery's Cuba Partnership Team of MOJC traveled to and met with members and Pastor Marielys Diaz of the Iglesia Presbyteriana Reformada de Cuba (IPRC) in Placetas, Cuba. This is the 4th Mission Presbytery trip as presbyter-to-presbytery partners with the el Centro Presbytery of the IPRC.  The purpose of the trip was to explore the potential commitment to a church-to-church partnership between Madison Square and the IPRC church in Placetas.  MIssion Presbytery members travelling included: Edwin Blanton (Madison Square Presbyterian Church, San Antonio), Caly Fernandez (New Covenant Fellowship, Austin, Team Leader) , Kay McCloskey (Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, Helotes) and Pat Metcalf (Madison Square Presbyterian Church, San Antonio).  The full report with pictures can be found on the MOJC page/link.
Please contact MOJC or one of us if you are interested in this special partnership that MIssion Presbytery has with el Centro Presbytery in Cuba. We'd be happy to do a presentation at your church or speak informally with a group.

Sallie's Ponderings
In the midst of polarization, poverty, hunger, meanness and need, our temptation is to find solace in "the good ol' days". However, Sallie and the prophet Jeremiah have another solution:

"Plant yourselves as well as your gardens. Get to know your neighbors. Make civic conditions around you better, for when your community flourishes you will flourish as well. God has promised us a future and a hope, and God always keeps God’s promises."

Read more about being hope in this week's edition of Sallie's Ponderings.

In The Know
Regional Liaisons Here to Help YOU
So you know that you have a Presbytery staff that loves you and supports you, right? But you've got more "human resources" than that!

Each of the six regions of Mission Presbytery has three additional people who keep you in mind. You've got a  Regional liaison who's responsible for keeping a handle on all the congregations in your region, and communicating with you about all the goings-on of the Presbytery. You've got a  COM  region liaison who makes sure your congregation has the coverage you need for COM-related issues. And you also have a  Pastoral   Care  liaison, someone who keeps an ear out for those who have an extra need for prayer or some TLC.

Each of these folks stand ready to work with you and get you what you need. But it works best if you keep the communications going both ways. If you know of a need, or an event, or anything that might need some extra attention, let these folks know. Get to know your liaisons!
Do you need to reignite your vocational fire? Spark new thinking or doing in ministry? Reimagine life with clergy walking a similar path?

Apply for a clergy renewal grant from Austin Seminary’s College of Pastoral Leaders. Designed to reinvigorate your vocation, the College of Pastoral Leaders makes two-year, $10,000 grants to small groups of pastors to pursue a self-designed program for renewal, vitality, and pastoral excellence.

The 2020 Applications are now available! For more information and a copy of the application visit the APTS website .

Applications are due by May 15, 2020.
