Committee on Representation and Participation

Mission Presbytery is grateful for the many contributions of our members as we seek to do God’s will. We ARE “better together!” Your offerings of time, talent, resources, and self reflect Whose we are in this part of Texas.

Our Mission Statement is: As Mission Presbytery, we connect diverse leaders and congregations by providing opportunities for worship, learning, and service so that all can flourish through God’s grace.

The Committee on Representation and Participation (CORP) is working on filling committee, commission, and task force positions for 2024. We need your energy, intelligence, creativity, and love as we seek to be an intentional PC(USA) witness. Where are you being led to serve? Please nominate yourself! Do you know someone who would be perfect for a particular service? Talk with them, then nominate them. The nomination form is in this newsletter.

Hope Land Pilgrimage

Hope Presbyterian (Austin) is embarking on a Pilgrimage to the Holy Land in March 2024! Hope PC has secured the services Progressive Pilgrimage, and they are now registering pilgrims. By design, space is limited to roughly 25-30 total pilgrims. This an opportunity for congregations to deepen our faith together.

This 12-day journey to the Holy Land will bring you close encounters with the land of ancient Judaism and Christianity. Watch the scriptures come to life as you walk through the wilderness and pray in the Garden of Gethsemane. Experience modern religious traditions by worshiping with Palestinian Christians and walking down the Mount of Olives. Build deep and lasting relationships with others from our congregation and community through group reflections and shared worship.

Tidbits from the Learn Committee

Are you charged with selecting curricula for faith formation in a small church with a very limited budget? Is your church finding Sunday School attendance declining and curricula provision for the various grade levels challenging? If so, once you’ve made a solid, Session-approved plan for your church’s Christian Education program (nursery – older adult), it may be helpful to consider a few ideas to stretch money and support.

Active Shooter Preparedness Webinar

Wednesday, August 9, 2023

10:00 a.m. Central Time (11:00 a.m. EDT)

THIS IS NOT A TACTICAL TRAINING COURSE

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Region 6 (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas) invites you to join a two-hour security webinar to enhance your organization’sresilience in case of an active shooter incident.

Preparing employees for a potential active shooter event is an integral component of an organization’s incident response planning. Because active shooter incidents are unpredictable and evolve quickly, preparing for and knowing what to do in an active shooter situation can be the difference between life and death. Every second

counts.

Registration is limited to 400 participants and will close no later than 8 August 2023 at noon (12:00 p.m.) EDT.

Sallie's Ponderings

After a vacation spent at family reunions, Sallie, being the "genealogy nerd person" she is, reflects on names. "How did we get them? What hopes and dreams did our parents want to embue within us when they chose them?"

Read Sallie's ponderings to hear a little about her family, where she got her name, and a reflection on who we are. Maybe even take her up on that happy hour offer to hear more.

Not-Your-Average Boundaries Training from Synod of the Sun Returns

Not-Your-Average Boundaries Training, offered by Synod of the Sun and Leaderwise, is tailored to focus on strategies to foster mental health, emotional resiliency, and well-being. While this training still covers the requirements—“Don’t sleep with a parishioner unless you’re married to them” and the like —the best prevention is to encourage clergy to take steps to manage their stress in order to maintain balance and perspective when temptation arises.

This training is lively and interactive, full of reflection and conversation—and even laughter. Attendees have given us feedback that our boundaries training was a great experience, AND caused them to re-evaluate some of their own practices.

NOTE: If you took this training last year, you do not need to take it again.

Bread for the Journey is a week-long gathering for those engaged in pastoral ministry in the church. Participants benefit from the specific conference track that they choose and from crossing paths and rubbing elbows with other colleagues who may be at Mo-Ranch for different reasons — but who are looking to benefit from extended time with friends in ministry.
