God Bless Our Children

Rev. Bobby Musengwa

Transitional General Presbyter

The church of Jesus Christ can never take for granted the lives of young people.

Young people are bombarded with powerful messages competing for their attention, time, energy, and their money.

John Knox Ranch is like an oasis in the wilderness set apart to allow them, as well as all of us, to unplug, reflect, and pray, as they prepare to go back into the world to share the love of God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Happy Ordinary Time!

If you look at the official PCUSA program calendar, you will see that the church has moved into what the calendar designates as the Sundays after Pentecost. And certainly that is where we are in our liturgical year. But I want to make a case to return to noting these Sundays as Ordinary Time. I want to give Ordinary Time its full due. For Ordinary Time is anything but ordinary.

June is a popular month for ordinations! This month, we are honoring all our pastors who were ordained in June. We especially celebrate Carolyn Helsel on the 20th anniversary of her ordination and John Roberts on the 30th anniversary of his ordination.

PDA Offers Resilience Training

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is pleased to partner with Mission Presbytery in offering a 90- minute interactive program focused on building resilience in the midst of daily life stress. In our time together, members of the PDA team will focus on increasing our understanding of signs of stress and sharing in-the-moment strategies to handle stress. Participants wil have the opportunity to share what works for them in staying centered and bouncing back in challenging times.

We’ll offer strategies that focus on healing and resilience-building tools, including story telling, relaxation and self-care techniques, spiritual practices, and strengthening positive connections with others. Each participant will create a personalized self-care plan during our time together.

Young at Heart Quartet at Grace Presbyterian

Grace Presbyterian Church at 950 Donaldson Avenue in San Antonio is blessed to welcome the Young at Heart Quartet on Sunday, June 28 to sing during our 10:30 worship service and after the service in the coffee room. Those present will surely be blessed.

We See You!

Because Presbyterians are Hidden Heroes

What are all the behind-the-scenes tasks carried out by often unknown Hidden Heroes that a church needs done to keep the work of the church ongoing? Is it refilling the oil in the candles on the communion table, coordinating the prayer list, or, perhaps, changing diapers in the nursery.

San Gabriel Presbyterian Church recently asked the congregation about special duties and held a Hidden Heroes celebration on May 24th in honor of those congregants who do over 120 such tasks. These was a wall explaining the tasks, mini-Hero sandwiches, and cupcakes.
