Give. Act. Pray. for Israel and Gaza

The situation in Israel and Gaza is dreadful. Civilians, including women, children and the elderly, are trapped in a war zone, facing a severe humanitarian crisis. They are enduring unimaginable hardships, and the need for immediate humanitarian relief is paramount.

Through PDA, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is providing assistance to those most vulnerable and supporting partners in Palestine and Israel who are responding to the needs of neighbors and strangers in their midst, no matter their religious beliefs, political views or nationality. We are called to care for all of God’s children, especially those in war-torn communities, by responding to the urgent needs of those directly affected by the current conflict.

The needs for the response will be great. God’s people are called on to stand in the “GAP” — Give. Act. Pray.

New Dates for Boundaries Training

Administrative Assistant sought

New dates set in 2024 for Leaderwise Boundaries training.

This boundaries training is lively and interactive, full of reflection and conversation—and even laughter. Attendees have given feedback that this training was a great experience, AND caused them to re-evaluate some of their own practices.

In Memoriam

We give thanks to God for the outsized, faithful, and committed life of Lidia Serrata Ledesma, who died on Wednesday, October 11 after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. Most recently, Lidia served as one of our commissioners to the General Assembly in 2022. But she has a long record of faithful service in the Presbyterian Church (USA), from her home congregation of Nicea Presbyterian Church in Victoria and the Synod of the Sun all the way to the Permanent Judicial Commission of the General Assembly. She was a graduate of Presbyterian Pan American School and the University of Texas, and practiced law with a specialty in children's advocacy. Lidia is survived by two sons, her brother Robert and another sibling, and a host of adoring family, colleagues and friends.

Correction: A memorial service is planned for Sunday, November 5th, at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Victoria.

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, says the Spirit. They rest from their labors, and their works follow them. (Revelation 14:13)

2024 MidWinter Lectures at APTS

Austin Seminary is thrilled to introduce our 2024 MidWinter Lecturers. Groundbreaking scholars and practitioners, Emilie M. Townes, Cláudio Carvalhaes, and Cheryl Bear-Bartnerson will speak to contemporary issues in the church and society from their particular social locations, sure to ignite a lively exchange of ideas and perspectives. Daily services in Shelton Chapel, led by Presbyterian Pastor Chris Currie, will ground our conversations within the context of the worship of God. While our lectures and worship will be live-streamed, the in-person experience—with lectures, Q&As, conversations, worship, and fun and relaxing social times—has been crafted to offer a lively and engaging connection with the lecturers and other participants. Make your plans now to join us in January!
