CCC Work Retreat

On April 29, 30 and May 1, a total of 67 volunteers gathered on Holy Ground for the Christian Conference Center's annual Work Retreat. Some came for a day and others stayed all weekend.  This event is held annually in the spring to help get projects accomplished that must be done before summer campers arrive.

This year, volunteers ranged in age from 4 years old to 75+. Several projects were accomplished. A park grill was installed at McKee Retreat House, as well as a new gate into Chi Rho Country. The Chi Rho villages were cleaned out and made ready for campers. The Chi Rho Bathhouse is getting a facelift, and a lot of progress was made. We are hoping this project will be completed before June 1. The miniature golf course was repaired, and lots and lots of debris was cleaned up from the December wind storm.

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who came out for a weekend of hands on service. Be sure to subscribe to the CCC Newsletter to hear about future volunteer opportunities.

Green Chalice Video Resource

Spring is a great time for congregations to concentrate on earth stewardship.  Check out this latest webinar from Green Chalice.  It's entitled "Restoring Nature: What People of Faith Can Do to Heal the Earth."

In this webinar, Tallamy outlines the crisis faced and what we can do in response. The green teams and green thumbs of faith communities will learn not only about cultivating native plants in the landscapes around them, but also what can be done to create a transformative movement full of actions ordinary people everywhere can take.

We hope the webinar might be a helpful resource for our Green Chalice congregations, or congregations who may be thinking of becoming a certified Green Chalice house of worship.

Turning Struggle into Steadfastness

Stories of struggle are nothing new to the church.  From the persecution faced by early Christians to civil rights movements led by faith leaders, the church has found its strength in times of unrest.

The COVID-19 pandemic is yet another chapter in this long history, both nothing unique and yet entirely different.  Through it all, Disciples have been steadfast. By launching emerging congregations, they have stepped up to care for communities in need.

But they don’t do it alone.

With the help of regional and general ministries, these brave leaders have been provided with facilities to conduct their outreach activities and with online educational opportunities, such as Leadership Academy.

By making a gift to the 2022 Pentecost Offering, received in most congregations on Sundays, May 29 and June 5, you can ensure that the new church movement continues to prosper in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Each year, half of these gifts go to your own region to support local new church development. The other half goes to New Church Ministry, which trains, equips, assists, and multiplies new church leaders across the United States and Canada through programs such as coaching, New Church Hacks, and Water the Plants.

Planning, nurturing, and sustaining new places of worship is part of the Disciples’ vision – participation in this Special Day Offering helps this vision come to life.

Please give generously to this year’s Pentecost offering.

We Want to Hear about Your Ministry
Is your church doing something new or creative? Are you finding a unique way to serve a need in your community? We want to hear about it and share your story with the rest of the church! Our goal is to share at least one new idea from a congregation each time we publish this newsletter.

Please send your story to Tiff Williams, Associate Regional Minister, and she will get in contact with you about your ministry. Sharing your church's story could spark a new idea in a sister congregation. As Disciples Together, we will be stronger in our ministry to the world when we share what God is doing through us in our communities.
