I Have a Prayer Request

Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to you. They have told the church about your love. Please send them on their way in a manner that honors God. (3 John:5-6)

Paving Our Road to Memphis…

I’m writing to you this week with an opportunity of sorts. As you may know, we are taking a mission trip to the city of Memphis, Tennessee. Yes, the seats in the van are claimed… No, we’re not asking you to be a stowaway in our 15-seater. But there is a way that you can support us in our Mission to Memphis (quickly approaching on July 8th). With your financial support (of any amount) you can become an honorary participant on our road to Memphis. You may click on the link below or drop off a check (with Mission to Memphis on the memo line) to make a donation.

What will your donation go towards?

  • It will account for extra miles of gas after a wrong turn,
  • a stop for snacks along the way,
  • a dinner out on our way home,
  • some money for some toiletries that someone will undoubtedly forget (probably me),
  • and any other unexpected thing that comes about on our 822-mile journey.

Recently, our itinerary for mission-week was revealed to us through Praying Pelican Ministries (who organizes mission trips across the United States). Our days in Memphis will be filled with worship, team-bonding activities, working with Calvary Rescue Mission by providing food and hot meals to people in need, projects with our host church (The Fellowship of Believers in Christ’ - who are led by Pastor Joseph Jackson), working with local youth (literacy, mathematics, athletic programs), community garden development (Ms. Judy & Major Coleman St. Community Gardens), a visit to Shelby Farms Park (one of the largest urban parks in the world), daily devotions (morning and evening), and many more team ministry assignments.

But beyond what’s scheduled for us - it’ll be the experiences and the people we meet along the way that will be most memorable. I’m so excited to be a part of the incredible group that’ll be on our Mission to Memphis. Their willingness to step out of their comfort zones, devote their time and talent to a cause bigger than us all, and strengthen their relationships with Jesus Christ (and one another) has been impressive to say the least. Below are the names of the young people who have committed to help make a difference in the lives of others:

  • Eli Anderson
  • Gabriel Cortes
  • Sophia Hesli
  • Jamison Livermore
  • Zoe Michalak
  • Mitchell Salzman
  • Monica Salzman
  • Ava Walters

Along with these amazing young adults, we have two chaperones blessed to be going with - Craig Anderson, and myself - Chris Rupar.

There will be countless moments along our sixteen-hundred-mile journey - and I can’t wait to be a small part of it. And you (yes, you) the congregation of Hosanna can be a small part of it too. If you find it in your heart, and are able to contribute to our cause and our mission, we would be forever thankful.

I hope (as always), that these Ramblings find you well. God bless you, friends.

Chris Rupar

LifeGroup Bible Study: Dear John

The letter writer named John reminds Jesus followers to reflect God’s light and love as they stay true to their beliefs amidst false teachers who are spreading fear. These letters are short but powerful. The letter writer draws hard contrasts between true and false faith. This is a faith that transforms how a follower thinks, acts and relates to others.

The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah

The Four Winds is a rich, sweeping novel that stunningly brings to life The Great Depression and the people who lived through it — the harsh realities that divided us as a nation and the enduring battles between the haves and the have-nots. A testament to hope, resilience and the strength of the human spirit to survive adversity.

Discussion Date on Zoom - To be Determined

The Rent Collector by Camron Wright

The Rent Collector is a story of hope, of one woman's journey to save her son and another woman's chance at redemption. It demonstrates that even in a dump in Cambodia—perhaps especially in a dump in Cambodia—everyone deserves a second chance. Though the book is a work of fiction, it was inspired by real people who lived at the Stung Meanchey dump in Cambodia.
