Missions & Advocacy Update

Late Summer 2025

We hope you'll sign up for one of the many ways to serve our neighbors listed below.

We love to hear how you or your Sunday School class are connecting with our mission partners, please let us know how you are serving at aadcox@wilshirebc.org and send a picture or two!

Wilshire Rental Assistance Update

As a reflection of Wilshire’s commitment to care for our neighbors in Christ’s name, the Wilshire Rental Assistance Program (WRAP) provided $125,338.79 in housing support from January to April 2025.

These funds, made possible through the Missions Plus Fund and an anonymous trust, helped 79 families—impacting more than 230 individuals, all with children under 18. The average award was $1,587, and families represented 35 different zip codes.

Many recipients were employed but facing hardship due to illness, medical emergencies, or reduced hours at work. Of those reached for follow-up, 63% reported improved housing stability. This ministry is a testament to what generosity, faith, and shared commitment can do and we give thanks for all who made it possible.

Opportunities to serve these neighbors continue through our Thanksgiving and Christmas Giving Tree initiatives.

In Deed & Truth Update

Marking the Moments:

Wilshire’s Journey Toward Racial Justice

Be sure to visit the In Deed & Truth Timeline on display in the South Lobby and James Gallery. This interactive timeline traces key moments in Wilshire’s racial justice journey and invites you to add your own reflections or hopes for the future. Sticky notes are available for you to share a memory, story, or vision of what’s next.

Also, look for Wilshire’s new Land Acknowledgment featured in this week’s Tapestry. It’s another step in our church’s ongoing commitment to awareness, truth-telling, and reconciliation.

Advocacy Resource: Indivisible is a national organization that "shows up to advocate for policy wins in off-years and get out the vote in election years. These efforts reinforce each other to ensure our democracy works for all of us and that the people in power do too - or we will replace them with electeds who will."

With Wilshire Folks

Wilshire member Cindy Estee is coordinating volunteers to serve as food pantry assistants on the third Tuesday of each month from noon to 3:45 p.m. Wilkinson’s food pantry serves all ages in all stages: kids, single moms, fathers trying to support their families and seniors on a fixed income. Assistants greet and help clients, restock shelves and pack food boxes.

Volunteers do not need to serve every month. If you are interested, contact Cindy at cesteedallas@aol.com. She will reach out monthly to confirm our team of four to six.

The food pantry is located at 3402 N. Buckner Blvd.

The pantry is now located at 1610 S Malcolm X Building 350.

EMPOWERING THE MASSES

Volunteer to Feed a Family

Volunteers are welcome Fridays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and Saturdays from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Volunteers serve neighbors in different ways:

Friday: Assembling, preparing, and packing 30 - 40 lb. emergency food bags to be distributed in the drive-thru pantry.

Saturday: Assisting with the drive-thru pantry operation as clients drive-up and stay in their cars. Staff and volunteers place pertinent information on the dashboard, which is recorded. Volunteers bring pre-packaged bags of groceries to the trunk of each car. For clients and volunteers’ protection, if the trunk is full or does not work, clients are directed to a location where they load their groceries.
