Youth Choir Headed to

Kansas City

for Mission Tour

Wilshire's youth choir heads to Kansas City, Missouri, on June 6 for their annual mission tour. On June 7, the group will lead worship at Second Baptist Liberty, where former pastoral resident Jason Edwards serves as senior pastor.

Throughout the week, students will serve local nonprofits including Hope Faith, Kanbe's Markets, and Avenue Life. The tour also includes visits to the National WWI Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum — and a Royals game against the Texas Rangers. Tour will conclude with the choir participating in our 75th annivesary service on June 14.

Please pray for safety in their travels, for humility and genuine connection as they serve, and for deepening relationships within the group.

Wilshire Hosts

Interfaith Gathering

with Sharing Sacred Spaces

On May 12, Wilshire welcomed 70 guests from eight faith traditions in partnership with Sharing Sacred Spaces. The evening began with a meal and a conversation about Wilshire's Baptist heritage, followed by a building tour led by Wilshire ministers that concluded with an organ demonstration.

Wilshire members David Giles, Monica Mullins, and Angela Sayre are participating in a yearlong cohort program with Sharing Sacred Spaces, an organization whose mission is to overcome bias, misunderstanding, and polarization through immersive education and experiences that illuminate our common humanity. Through creative uses of sacred space and architecture, Sharing Sacred Spaces invites people and faith communities to engage differing worldviews and work together to address local challenges.

There are two ways to serve at Wilkinson Center-

on your own or with a group of Wilshire folks.

On Your Own

Use the link below to sign up anytime to assist in their Food Pantry.

Volunteers at the Food Pantry must be 16 years old to volunteer on their own and 12 years old to volunteer with an adult. Volunteers with the Pantry2Go mobile food truck must be at least 18 years to volunteer.

With Wilshire Folks

Wilshire member Cindy Estee is coordinating volunteers to serve as food pantry assistants on the third Tuesday of each month from noon to 3:45 p.m. Wilkinson’s food pantry serves all ages in all stages: kids, single moms, fathers trying to support their families and seniors on a fixed income. Assistants greet and help clients, restock shelves and pack food boxes.

Volunteers do not need to serve every month. If you are interested, contact Cindy at cesteedallas@aol.com. She will reach out monthly to confirm our team of four to six.

The food pantry is located at 3402 N. Buckner Blvd.

The Stewpot is now operating the Food Pantry that was previously managed by CitySquare. This program requires substantial volunteer assistance from the community.

The pantry is now located at 1610 S Malcolm X Building 350.

EMPOWERING THE MASSES

Volunteer to Feed a Family

Volunteers are welcome Fridays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and Saturdays from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Volunteers serve neighbors in different ways:

Friday: Assembling, preparing, and packing 30 - 40 lb. emergency food bags to be distributed in the drive-thru pantry.

Saturday: Assisting with the drive-thru pantry operation as clients drive-up and stay in their cars. Staff and volunteers place pertinent information on the dashboard, which is recorded. Volunteers bring pre-packaged bags of groceries to the trunk of each car. For clients and volunteers’ protection, if the trunk is full or does not work, clients are directed to a location where they load their groceries.

If you wish to be removed from this list please contact Abbey Adcox.
