Mission Work Updates

Revised Donation Guidelines

In an effort to be more intentional about what we donate to our community partners based on their specific needs and items that make the most impact, the Mission Ministry is providing new guidelines.

The following items will be picked up weekly at Sardis by Loaves and Fishes/Friendship Trays. Place your items in the labeled bins in the hallway behind the library or in the Narthex in the designated basket.

We ask you to drop off only items specifically requested. Please keep in mind health and nutrition when you make your food donations and try to choose items with lower sodium and lower sugar content.

Loaves and Fishes: Home delivery of groceries to food-insecure neighbors in Mecklenburg County who are referred to Loaves and Fishes as having a need.

Canned Meat (Tuna, Chicken etc.) with pop top preferred
Canned Fruit (low sugar or in juice)
Pastas- Canned or Dry Boxed
Diapers (Sizes 3, 4, 5 and larger)
Low Sodium Canned Vegetables
Peanut Butter

Please- No Glass

Friendship Trays: Delivery of meals to seniors in the community living on their own and to adult and child daycares. Provides nutritious, easy to heat food and a visit from a community member to seniors living alone.)

Gluten Free Individually Wrapped Items like granola bars
Sugar Free Individual Pudding Cups
Low Sugar Individual Fruit Cups
Individual Vegetable Cups

SPECIAL DRIVES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR:

These include Clothing Drive, Pool for Tools Drive, Essential Basket Drive, Reverse Advent Calendar collection, etc. Please drop off the requested items only during the dates of the corresponding drive and to the specified location.

On behalf of Rama Road Elementary students and families, I want to thank the members of the Sardis Presbyterian community for their support of the A Book of My Own project. This initiative is always very important to the prevention of summer reading slide, but in a year following the negative impacts of COVID and increased reading skill deficits, this mission will allow all our students to continue daily reading practice with texts relevant to grade level comprehension skills and growth as fluent readers. Room In The Inn - It Takes A Congregation

During the first three months of 2022, Sardis hosted Room In The Inn. During that time period, Sardis volunteers, in partnership with volunteers from Trinity Presbyterian Church, hosted 87 neighbors. This was accomplished because of the assistance provided by nine team leaders and coordinators, 54 Sardis volunteers, eight Mustard Seed Groups, Sunday School classes that provided meals and breakfast for our neighbors, and Sardis families and newer members who provided bagged lunches and pre-made the beds for our neighbors. What does a person volunteering mean to our neighbors?
