Did you know In a typical year, thousands of Mecklenburg County residents visit Crisis Assistance Ministry to shop free-of-charge for essentials like clothing, shoes, linens, toiletries, and household goods. In 2019, over one million items were distributed with nearly 80 families shopping per day.
Sardis, thank you for your generous support of our A Book of My Own drive. Rama students will choose exciting titles from over 3,000 purchased books plus an additional 1,280 bonus books provided by Scholastic. Every student will have six new books to enjoy and continue practicing their reading skills. Thank you to everyone who donated!
Sardis Youth Cook Up Help for the Women's Shelter

Rama Road Elementary Honors Sardis Member, Anne Hollowell
Rama Elementary School honored Anne Hollowell at their annual Volunteer Appreciation lunch in April. Anne had recently stepped down as leader of Planting Seeds of Hope (PSOH), which is the partnership formed between Rama and Sardis Presbyterian church. She has been involved in the ministry since inception in 2008 and its leader since 2016. Rama teacher, Kristin Seegars as well as Patricia Denny, Rama principal, both expressed their gratitude to Anne for her service over the years. She was recognized for her leadership and her acts of kindness both large and small. To show their appreciation, the school purchased matching shrubs, one given to Anne to take home, and the other to be planted in the school courtyard in her honor. What a wonderful tribute to Anne and a lasting reminder to each of this special partnership between Rama Elementary School and Sardis Presbyterian Church.
Mission Partner Highlight
Care Ring
Care Ring, an agency supported by Sardis through its Mission Ministry, supports the growth of its Nurse-Family Partnership program for low-income, first- time mothers and their babies in Mecklenburg County. Through regular visits by a Registered Nurse, the mothers are able to improve pregnancy outcomes, learn parenting skills, and gain the ability to achieve self-sufficiency until the child is two years old.
The three main goals are to:
  • Improve maternal health
  • Improve the child’s health and development
  • bolster the economic self sufficiency of the family with the ultimate goal of breaking the cycle of generational poverty, and improving the life outcomes for women and their children, particularly for women of color

Requested and/or needed, Care Ring registered nurses also serve women who are incarcerated; this partnership provides prenatal and infant care to moms and their babies until the child turns 2, at no cost to the mother.
As you shop the Alternative Gift Market during Advent, as in 2021, Care Ring is being reviewed to include on the 2022 AGM agency shopping list. Your support is most welcomed.
