MISSOURI HOUSE AND SENATE CONTINUE TO MOVE PRO-LIFE, PRO-FAMILY LEGISLATION FORWARD
The House and Senate continue to move pro-life legislation. This week in the House the Elections Committee heard HB 3146, Rep John Simmons bill to modify provisions of the process of how ballot summaries ultimately get to the ballot. HB 3146 requires the court to send back to the Secretary of State the ballot summary language 3 times rather than the court just rewriting it. HB 3146 also would increase the number of words on the ballot from 50 to 100 so people have a better understanding of what they are voting on. This is a good government bill that is all about transparency for voters in an election process.
Also, this week the House third read and passed HCS HBs 2033, 1608, 1672 & 1854, Rep. Melissa Schmidt’s bill that repeals the expiration date from legislation passed previously that would prevent a health care provider from knowingly prescribing or administering cross-sex hormones or puberty-blocking drugs for the purpose of a gender transition for any individual under 18 years of age. This is relevant to the pro-life battle of Amendment 3 from the perspective that Planned Parenthood’s position on these issues deal with what they call reproductive healthcare. This bill now moves to the Senate.
In the Senate, the Education Committee voted do pass on SB 978, Sen. Nick Schroer’s bill to teach human development curriculum in public schools. The vote in committee was 5-2, with the 2 Democrats opposing the bill.
Continue to pray for your elected officials as they work through this 2026 legislative session.
