On Saturday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m., special guest William McConnell, Executive Director of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians in Louisville, Ky., will lead a session entitled
in the church sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City.
He will describe the intensive planning that goes into the preparation of a hymnal that is intended to be used for the next twenty to thirty years. This is a particular challenge in a time of changing tastes in church music and a shift from printed material to digital sources.
The Saturday session will draw attention to the breadth of material in the new hymnal. Some hymns step back in time including selections such as
I Love to Tell the Story
Bringing in the Sheaves—
hymns not appearing in Presbyterian hymn books for many years. Some of the steps forward encompass many new hymns and styles.
