QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY PUBLIC HOLIDAY
Monday 10 June

The Mitcham Memorial Library and Blackwood Library will be closed on Monday 10 June for the Queen's Birthday Public Holiday.

The after hours returns chutes will be open. When full they will automatically close off. Please do not leave items outside the library as you will remain responsible for these items.

Tune your artistic expression into creating a guitar.
 
Build your own wooden guitar and decorate it at the Blackwood and Mitcham Memorial Libraries.

Open to school aged children. Adult supervision is required.

HENNA HAND DECORATION YOUTH  WORKSHOP

Learn about the beautiful art of henna hand decoration, which been used by many cultures for centuries, in this 2 hour hands on workshop. All materials included.

Henna may remain on skin for a couple of weeks.

SCOTT WHITAKER: RAILWAY HOTELS OF AUSTRALIA

Join author and Australian railways expert Scott Whitaker as he talks about his journey to document the colourful history of Railway Hotels in Australia. His new book, Railway Hotels of Australia Volume Four, covers South Australia, Northern Territory, Tasmania and Western Australia. 

The book contains a wealth of information on the history of our railways and explores the social, economic and political themes that helped to shape the state.

AWARD WINNER

Mitcham Memorial Library & Brown Hill Creek Project

The City of Mitcham recently won the Institute of Public Works and Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) award for Excellence in Design and/or Construction of a Public Works Environmental Enhancement Project for the Mitcham Memorial Library and Brown Hill Creek project. The same project also received a High Commendation (runner up) award from Parks and Leisure Australia SA/NT for Best Community Facility.
NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME

The libraries recently hosted fourteen classes from local schools and kindergartens to celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime. 

Stories were told, songs were sung, alpaca treasure hunts enjoyed and alpaca creations lovingly made were taken home.

WINTER WARMER

If you are looking for a warm cosy spot this winter to read or study there is no place better than the library.

We have reading nooks and study booths galore as well as $2 coffee and yummy hot chocolate.

COURIER TRANSITION

Australia Post are now responsible for transporting tubs of books between SA libraries to fulfill customer requests. We have been keeping them busy! Australia Post have sorted 690,728 items in the last three months.  This equates to an average of 27,000 tubs in and out of the facility, totally around 54,500 tubs handled over the three months.

To give an idea of the size of the operation please see some photos of the sortation facility below.

IP AD CLASSES
Mitcham Memorial Library |  10am - 12pm 

Introduction Class 1: Wednesday 3 and 31 July, 14 August.
iPad 1  is a hands-on session with your iPad for beginners, including those with few skills and those who are only using their iPad in a limited manner. Topics include: 
getting information, switches and buttons, arranging icons, control centre, switching between apps, Safari, Calendar, Contacts, keyboard, word-processing - Notes, managing Settings, iCloud, beginning Photos.
 
A web-site for the session provides supporting notes.

Introduction Class 2 (Follows on from Intro 1): Wednesday 17 July, 28 August.
iPad 2   is a continuation from session 1, and includes:
Apple ID, Apps and the App Store, maps, Photos editing and management, music, eBooks, listening - podcasts and books, Pages word-processor, and a wide range of topics covered in the Extras section on the web site, answering questions on what  the iPad can do.
