Until completion of the new Mitcham Library in early 2019, please visit us at Hawthorn Community Centre, 5 Frimley Grove, Hawthorn or at Blackwood Library, 215 Main Road, Blackwood.

From Saturday 28 July, services at Hawthorn Community Centre will include :
  • Holds
  • Access to computers and free wifi
  • After hours' chute
  • Limited adult and large print fiction collection
  • DVD collection 
  • Magazines and newspapers
  • Children's collections
  • All regular programmes and services (Storytelling, Babytime, JP and more)
  • Reading areas and comfy couches!
Friendly and helpful staff are available to help you find and reserve any Library items which can then be collected from Hawthorn Community Centre, Blackwood Library or any other Public Library convenient to you.

The usual Library operating hours apply.

ABORIGINAL BASKET WEAVING AND DOT PAINTING WORKSHOP

A relaxing hands on adult workshop learning traditional Aboriginal arts and crafts of Basket Weaving with natural materials and Dot Painting. All materials supplied.

TOY LIBRARIES

Our toy libraries are supported by a wonderful team of volunteers. They process returned toys, help get new toys ready for loan, carry out basic toy repair and maintenance, and assist members when needed. Our toy library service currently has volunteer vacancies at both Mitcham and Blackwood sites. On-the-job training is provided.

GOLDEN MAN BOOKER PRIZE WINNER
 
The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje (Bloomsbury Publishing) has been announced as the winner of the Golden Man Booker Prize at the closing event of the Man Booker 50th Anniversary Festival at Southbank Centre.

The winner of this special one-off prize was chosen by the public. All 51 previous winners were considered by a panel of five specially appointed judges, each of whom was asked to read the winning novels from one decade of the prize's history, before the books faced a month-long public vote on the Man Booker website.
