Fred's Van, delivering meals and assistance to the homeless, has become a bit of an icon here in Adelaide. But what's the story behind the van...and who is Fred? 

Hear inspiring stories about Fred's Van and the work of the many St Vincent de Paul Society volunteers who make it possible . Operating from eight sites across Adelaide and two regional sites in Port Lincoln and Port Pirie, this emergency service is delivered by the work and commitment of more than 550 volunteers.

AUSTRALIA'S BIGGEST MORNING TEA

The Mitcham Library Service is hosting a morning tea to raise funds to  help fund Cancer Council's life-saving research, prevention and support programs in honour of our dearly missed and loved staff member, J anine.

Writing resumes and cover letters
Cost - $20 per person*

2 x 6 hr Workshops plus four weeks online training and assessing.
 
*State Government funding subsidies may apply. 

 
This training program is designed for individuals who would like to develop the skills to write their own resume and customise cover letters/emails for applying for jobs.
 
Topics covered in this training program:
  • Writing a resume, cover letters/emails to gain the reader's attention
  • Accurately display required information in an appropriate format
  • Conveying the right messages for intended audiences
Participants who successfully complete the requirements of this course will receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit - BSBWRT301 - Write simple documents

Lucy Moffatt is a writer and English Language teacher from Adelaide. 

Lucy, at age 6, once declared to everybody who would listen that when she grew up she was going to be a writer and is now  publishing her first book, Some Days: A Memoir, a story of friendship, cancer and Margherita pizza.

Join author and Australian railways expert Scott Whitaker as he talks about his journey to document the colourful history of Railway Hotels in Australia. His new book, Railway Hotels of Australia Volume Four, covers South Australia, Northern Territory, Tasmania and Western Australia. 

The book contains a wealth of information on the history of our railways and explores the social, economic and political themes that helped to shape the State.

iPad 1  is a hands-on session with your iPad for beginners, including those with few skills and those who are only using their iPad in a limited manner. Topics include: 
getting information, switches and buttons, arranging icons, control centre, switching between apps, Safari, Calendar, Contacts, keyboard, word-processing - Notes, managing Settings, iCloud, beginning Photos.
 
A web-site for the session provides supporting notes.

Introduction Class 2 (Follows on from Intro 1): Wednesday 5 June, 17 July.
iPad 2   is a continuation from session 1, and includes:
Apple ID, Apps and the App Store, maps, Photos editing and management, music, eBooks, listening - podcasts and books, Pages word-processor, and a wide range of topics covered in the Extras section on the web site, answering questions on what  the iPad can do.
