Ferry Sound Industries were a Clapham based garage manufacturer of valve radios, wire and tape recorders in the 1950s founded by Jack Ferry, son of Adelaide racing identity Syd Ferry.

Visit the Mitcham Memorial Library gallery space to see a pop-up exhibition of Ferry Reel to Reel recorders made in Clapham during the 1950s and a collection of vintage radios from the 1930s-1960s, many of which were manufactured in Adelaide.

BEGINNERS 1 ROBOTICS COURSE
Mitcham Memorial Library | Saturday 1 May - 26 June (ex 12 June) | 10.30am - 12pm
This eight week course covers the basics of programming the Arduino microprocessor using Ardublock, a "drag and drop" interface. Basic digital theory is included in the course. Participants build and program a project each week to understand how to control an Arduino, and to inspire them to create their own inventions.

GARDENING IN A CHANGING CLIMATE

How to redesign your garden to adapt to impacts of climate change. Hot dry summers and harsh conditions can have a significant impact on our gardens. Learn about the effects of a changing climate on the garden and how to cope with these challenging conditions. Peter will cover water-wise gardening techniques, plant selection, use of endemic species and how to support local native wildlife.

Presented by Horticulturist Peter Wilson.

The Climate Ready Communities Program empowers people to understand the risks they currently face, the way these are changing, and what they can do to build their resilience.

The 2-part training sessions cover:
  • local climate impacts and ways to avoid them
  • adaptation & mitigation
  • values based messaging & motivation
  • strategic community action planning

TREES ARE COOL: TREE PLANTING

Looking at planting trees in your garden and not sure what ones to choose and how to care for them?

Learn about selecting trees and plants that are suitable for the hills and plains, including soils and aspect, with a focus on species endemic to the region. Includes information on:
  • Planting - preparation, planting, aftercare
  • Maintenance - watering, fertilising, pruning
  • Propagation - seed collection, storage, sowing, preparing and planting cuttings

Join dietitian and nutritionist, Rebecca Greco as she presents the important nutrients and foods of interest to achieve positive ageing.

PRESCHOOL STORYTIME
Mitcham Memorial Library | Mondays and Thursdays | 10.30am
Blackwood Library | Tuesdays | 10.30am
Sessions, which are sometimes noisy, sometimes crazy, but they are always fun, are held at the Mitcham Memorial Library on Monday and Thursday at 10.30am and at Blackwood Library every Tuesday.

Preschoolers, with their parents, grandparents or caregivers, are entertained for an hour with stories, songs and craft. It is a great opportunity to meet other local families and enjoy quality time with your child.
