MITZVAH TOASTS

We were recently contacted by a Mitzvah Mom that was concerned about toasting her daughter in front of friends and family. In her mind she knew what she wanted to say, but couldn't get the words down on paper. She needed help and asked for guidance.

At Mitzvah List, we realize that writing a speech or toast for your child's Bar or Bat Mitzvah can be difficult and overwhelming. Most parents don't know where to start or what to say so we contacted Carolyn Schwartz, from Poems by Carolyn for direction on writing a Mitzvah Toast.

Almost 15 years ago, Carolyn Schwartz, started Poems by Carolyn, a unique writing service. Carolyn has helped thousands of families with custom and unique candle lighting ceremonies, parent bimah speeches, welcome speeches, toasts and more! Carolyn works one-on-one with her clients and has a special gift of putting their thoughts and emotions into heartfelt words. Carolyn gave us the following advice for putting together a warm and memorable toast:
Organization:
  • Introduction. Welcome your guests and thank them for celebrating with you and your family. Make sure you acknowledge grandparents, great-grandparents, family and friends that traveled great distances to attend.
  • Body Paragraph. Express the pride you feel for your child on becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Share a short story with your guests about what makes your child unique. Speaking of your child's character gives insight into who your child really is.
  • Finish with your Conclusion. It is important to briefly acknowledge your spouse and other children in the family on this special day. In addition, this is the time to express your wishes for your child's future as he or she moves toward adulthood. And of course, toast the moment with a big I LOVE YOU and MAZEL TOV!
Carolyn says that the best speeches come from the heart. As long as your speech is genuine and heartfelt, your speech will be meaningful and memorable. She also reminds parents to practice their speech several times before the big day. Practicing will help you feel comfortable and confident.

If you still need help, call Carolyn. Carolyn has a way of connecting with her clients like no other. Let her experience writing thousands of personalized speeches, toasts, roasts, poems and candle lighting ceremonies make your toast shine.
