This important information for those hiring J-1 international students on J-1 Visas was supplied by InterExchange

  • SEVIS is the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, which U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement uses to track participants’ whereabouts while they are in the U.S. All participants need to check into their SEVIS account no later than ten days after arriving in the U.S and every 30 days thereafter.

  • The I-94 arrival record is issued by the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Citizenship Services upon the participants' arrival in the U.S. The participants should go to the following website to retrieve the I-94 document. It indicates the day the student arrived, their admission number, passport number, and class of admission. We recommend that the participants print the I-94, and keep it for their records. They should bring it with them when they apply for their Social Security number. Get more information about the process here.

  • Every participant must apply for their Social Security card when they arrive in the U.S. Read all the information regarding Social Security here. Students may start working and can be paid prior to receiving their Social Security numbers. They should provide proof of application (a copy of the application receipt and/or a copy of the application for SS-5) to the employer.

  • All InterExchange students must pay federal, state and local taxes. Please send W-2 forms to students at their permanent addresses in their home countries. We recommend that you have students address envelopes with their permanent addresses at the time you have them fill out their W-4. Read more about it here.

The Departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Labor (DOL) released the long-awaited rule which will provide an additional 30,000 H-2B visas for returning workers who have participated in the program one of the last three years (FY 16, 17 or 18). The release of these additional visas will significantly benefit both small and seasonal properties who rely on the H-2B program to meet their seasonal workforce demands.

Longtime Lake George Dinner Theatre actor and director, Jarel Davidow has been named as the Lake Theatre Production's new Artistic Director.
Said LTP's outgoing Executive Producer Terry Rabine, “Jarel has been a core member of the Lake George Dinner Theatre's artistic team since 2012 and has always been deeply involved in the success of the company. So as the theater prepared to reorganize, Jarel was an obvious candidate to oversee the company’s artistic vision.“

Mr. Davidow will will direct both of Lake George Dinner Theatre’s 2019 season's dinner theater productions: Canny & Nicholson's comedic adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's THE HOUND OF THE BASERVILLES and Sam Bobrick's romantic comedy, LUNCH WITH MRS. BASKIN.

The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile (pictured above) as well as Green Mountain Dock Dogs will be part of Tails and Ales happening at Adirondack Pub & Brewery this weekend. Pet Fest in Glens Falls is this Saturday.

Plus there is a special treat for fans of David Cassidy — our CVB has been helping a group from out of town organize a big memorial tribute to him happening this Sunday that benefits several animal organizations.
