Currently MoAW is displaying our Faces of Africa; a Mystical View of Tribal Heritage, Wonderful Things: Treasures from the Pharaoh's Tomb, and Mesozoica: the Age of Dinosaurs which is part of Paleo: the Story of Life . We have many more artifacts and fossils in storage locally including Vessels of the Gods: Treasures of the Ancient Greeks, 1650 - 410 B.C. In the fall we will be exhibiting Vessels of the God's, this week's spotlight. Look for information about a grand opening of this exhibit and special offers for our members. Information on membership is at the end of this Spotlight message.

Vessels of the God's: Reflecting the brilliance of a millennium of ancient Aegean culture, four distinct periods produced the designs of these vases: Minoan, Mycenaean, Corinthian and Attic. Essentially consisting of silhouetted figures drawn against a background of red, black, or white, this art form gradually dies out after the Persian wars, c. 475-450 B.C. 48 individually shaped and painted by hand, these exquisite reproductions were created in Greece by master artists from the originals housed in The National Museum, Athens, The Heraklion Museum, The Thera Museum, The Corinth Museum, The Delphi Museum, The Louvre Museum, The Vatican Museum, and The Museo Civico, Brescia.

Through the Museum Travel Alliance, MoAW offered an amazing trip sailing the Greek Isles this June. Due to travel concerns and restrictions the trip is cancelled this year. Hopefully next year we will be able to do it and you will be able to join us. Below is a link to information on the trip, you can dream, plan and save.

Are you sitting at home, nobody within six feet of you and wishing you were seeing the world? We can't get you out of the house but can help you spend 20 minutes thinking you are. Below is a link to a video; Rick Steve's Europe, Greek Islands: Santorini, Mykonos and Rhodes. Enjoy.
Help Find a Good Home for a Well Behaved Dinosaurs.

MoAW has been offered access to two full size dinosaur's to enhance our collection, add to our educational offerings and increase awareness of who we are, where we are and what we offer.

One is an outdoor metal sculpture and the other a scientific laboratory cast specimen for indoor display. With limited space at MoAW, we do not have room for them and are looking for a foster homes. If you know of any local venue that may be interested please let us know. We might even name the dinosaur after you to show our thanks.

The first is a piece by Ricardo Breceda, world renowned metal sculptor has offered to place one of his life size dinosaur sculptures close to the Museum of Ancient Wonders on HWY 111 and Date Palm to draw attention and promote the museum. Mr. Breceda is best known for his metal sculptures in Borrego Springs. From his Wikipedia listing: Ricardo Breceda  is an artist most well known for his large metal sculptures of animals. He was born in the town of  Villa Union  in the state of  Durango Mexico , but now resides in  Aguanga, California .He made a metal sculpture of a  Tyranosaurus Rex  for his daughter Lianna after she asked for a dinosaur for Christmas after a viewing of  Jurassic Park III .
He continued work on sculptures, and was eventually discovered by a philanthropist, Dennis Avery who paid him to construct one piece that then resulted in more than 100 sculptures on his property at  Galleta Meadows Estate  based on beasts found in a book he funded that depicts now-fossilized creatures in the  Anza Borrego Desert  as well as mythological creatures.

Breceda was the subject of a book called "Ricardo Breceda: Accidental Artist", and his art was cited by both  The Huffington Post  and the  Union Tribune San Diego  as reasons why people should visit the Anza-Borrego Desert. You can visit his outdoor studio location known for its rustic charm and open landscape; in  Aguanga , which allows the structures to be a part of the surrounding outdoor landscape with hilltop views and winding country roads.

The second is the acquisition of a rare and complete 25 foot long fossil cast skeleton of a classic North American Triceratops believed to have been found in South Dakota in the 1980's. A unique and exciting offer to display this dinosaur skeleton is imminent. We will tell you more about this development next week.

Below is a link to a video on Ricardo Breceda.
Each Friday we highlight a different artifact or fossil from MoAW's collection. With over 250 currently on display, with rotating exhibits and future acquisitions, we won't run out of pieces to spotlight anytime soon.
Next Week; The bejeweled and crowned Royal Mummy of Tutankhamun from our "Wonderful Things" Collection.

MoAW.org offers links to the exhibit catalogs for all the collections. With captivating photos and well written narrative, it is almost like visiting the museum when you can't leave your home. Go to the"collections" tab and drag the cursor to the catalog of your choice. Nothing is like seeing the real thing, so once life returns to what we are used to, come see those artifacts and fossils in person. www.moaw.org

At this time, with cancellation of school field trips, visits from senior living communities for our creative aging programs and events that were scheduled to make MoAW their venue for a fabulous evening, revenues are down. While revenues are down, expenses remain. To help us at this time, we are asking our friends and supporters to consider making a tax deductible donation to MoAW. Everything helps, is appreciated, and supports our mission to bring a unique, educational venue to the Coachella Valley. A Museum that promises to enhance curriculum development for local and surrounding school districts, colleges, and universities, while providing a tourist destination to support the hospitality industry.

Other ways you can help are to become a member. More information on memberships is below. Tell your friends and family, neighbors, co-workers, everyone you know to visit moaw.org and visit the museum once we reopen.
