We wish you all good health during this crisis in our Nation.

Spotlight on: King Tut's Mummy

Find out how to visit MoAW while we are closed.
Royal Mummy of Pharaoh Tutankhamun and Funerary Bier.

The much anticipated opening of the third coffin, delayed by the sudden death of Lord Carnarvon, revealed the pharaoh’s mummy which measured 5 ft. 4 in. in length. Wrapped in linen bandages enfolding over 150 carefully placed sacred jewels and amulets and liberally anointed with consecrated lustrations, his body had been badly damaged, its brittle tissue withered and blackened by excessive application of the very resins intended to preserve it. His face, protected by the gold mask suffered the least. Encircling his head was a splendid royal diadem (bearing a simple, knotted ribbon design) of gold inlaid with cloisonné and semiprecious stones. His fingers and toes were individually capped with plain gold sheaths and his feet were fitted with a pair of ornamental sandals made of gold. As the priceless treasures on Tutankhamun’s person were removed by Carter, the youthful pharaoh’s fragile remains were senselessly torn to pieces. A second examination of the mummy in 1968 revealed possible evidence of a fatal blow to the skull behind the left ear.

Below is a link to a fascinating video of photographs of the expedition and discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun with a voice-over interview in Howard Carter's own voice.
Each Friday we highlight a different artifact or fossil from MoAW's collection. With over 250 currently on display, with rotating exhibits and future acquisitions, we won't run out of pieces to spotlight anytime soon.
Next Week: Now it's your turn.
Do you have a favorite piece at MoAW you would like to see highlighted in our weekly email? You can visit www.moaw.org, chose the collections tab, visit the catalogs and state your choice on the link below.
The Latest MoAW
In the News

The voting has ended for Palm Springs Life Best of the Best. Hopefully we will have good news to share soon. Thank you to all who voted for the Museum of Ancient Wonders in Cathedral City, where the past enlightens present, guiding a path to the future.

Thinking about where MoAW was one year ago, we have come a long way, a lot of hard work and meeting a lot of good people who are behind us. The first publication to write about us is Palm Springs Life, thank you again to Jim Powers, Steven Biller and especially Susan Myrland who wrote the article, she deserves a journalist award. It was in Palm Springs Life digital edition on July 1, 2019.

MoAW.org offers links to the exhibit catalogs for all the collections. With captivating photos and well written narrative, it is almost like visiting the museum when you can't leave your home. Go to the"collections" tab and drag the cursor to the catalog of your choice. Nothing is like seeing the real thing, so once life returns to what we are used to, come see those artifacts and fossils in person. www.MoAW.org

At this time, with cancellation of school field trips, visits from senior living communities for our creative aging programs and events that were scheduled to make MoAW their venue for a fabulous evening, revenues are down. While revenues are down, expenses remain. To help us at this time, we are asking our friends and supporters to consider making a tax deductible donation to MoAW. Everything helps, is appreciated, and supports our mission to bring a unique, educational venue to the Coachella Valley. The Museum of Ancient Wonders promises to enhance curriculum development for local and surrounding school districts, colleges and universities while providing a tourist destination for the hospitality industry.

Other ways you can help are to become a member. More information on memberships is below. Tell your friends and family, neighbors, co-workers, everyone you know to visit moaw.org and visit the museum once we reopen.
