Mobile Alumni Chapter Wins
Jay Crosby Award
Jacksonville, Florida-The Mobile Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Incorporated's Guide Right/Kappa League Program won the Jay Crosby Award at the 67th Southern Provincial Council meeting, held April 20-23, 2017.  The Jay Crosby Award, named in honor of Elder Watson Diggs Awardee Jay Crosby, who served as founder and mentor of the Dayton Kappa League Program, is presented annually to the most outstanding Guide Right Program.  The Mobile Kappa League previously won the award in both 2003 and 2005.

Kappa League Volunteers at
Mobile County Relay For Life
On Saturday, April 30, 2017, the Mobile Kappa Leaguers volunteered at the Mobile County Relay For Life at Hank Aaron Stadium where the group assisted with check-in and set-up. Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it's time to take action against cancer.
Many Mobile Kappa Leaguers expressed a strong desire to support this worthwhile cause because of the impact cancer has had on their own lives or that of relatives.  Kappa Leaguer Darian Hill  stated, "I am here because my mom is a cancer survivor."

Kappa Leaguer of the Month:
Brandon Martin

Brandon Tyrek Martin is the 3 rd Vice President of the Mobile Kappa League.  He was inducted into the League in Spring 2014.  Brandon is a senior honors student at Mattie T. Blount High School where he maintains a 3.49 GPA.  He is a member of the MCPSS Superintendent Student Advisory Council, National Technical Honor Society, D.E.C.A, the Yearbook staff, and the Varsity Football team.  Brandon plans to attend Auburn University in the fall where he will major in computer engineering.  He loves solving difficult math problems, working with computers and, most importantly, mentoring other male teens.

Why did you join the Kappa League?
I wanted to join the Elite Chapter of the Mobile Kappa League because I noticed that the demeanor of the Kappa Leaguers at my school was different than that of the other students.  I observed a brotherhood like no other: the members spoke English correctly, their pants were never below the waistline, and they were always involved with things at school and taking part in service to the community.  On top of that, the Kappa Leaguers always dressed with impeccable flavor.  The Mobile Kappa League is prestigious in Mobile and across the country.  I wanted to be part of their great legacy.

How has Kappa League Impacted your life?
Kappa League has impacted my life tremendously.  It has shown me how it feels to have true brothers. It's helped me become a leader in my community.  The Kappa League also helped me build my confidence level up so that no one can tear it down.  Without Kappa League, I would not be the person I am today.

KL Alum of the Month:
Zach Lucas
Born to Pastor Charles Lucas and the late Wanda Faye Malone Lucas, Zachary Lucas was raised by his grandparents in Mobile, AL.  He attended John L. LeFlore High School where he was a member of the baseball team and earned a 6A State Championship in basketball before graduating sixth in his class.  In the spring of 2005, Mr. Lucas became a member of the Elite Chapter of the Mobile Kappa League.
After graduation, Zachary attended Tuskegee University to major in accounting. There, he became a member of Gamma Beta Sigma Honor Society, was ranked among the top percent of students in the School of Business, and served as the Finance Chair for the SGA.  During his sophomore year, Mr. Lucas received an offer to work at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.  In the spring of 2011, Zachary became a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.  He graduated from Tuskegee in December of that year and returned to Cleveland the following January to begin his career as an Accountant and Budget Analyst for NASA.  In 2015, Mr. Lucas transitioned to a different role: Resources Manager and Community Relations Specialist.
Though he and his wife of two years, Khalia Lucas, remain residents of Cleveland, Zachary is an active participant in the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association.
Mr. Lucas credits the Mobile Kappa League with teaching him the importance of having confidence, building relationships, and networking.  He specifically recognizes Carl Cunningham, Sr., Carl Cunningham, Jr., and Joseph Roberson with encouraging him to always strive to be his best, even if that meant being different.  "In my eyes," he stated, "being different means standing out.  If I could give the young men in this organization any advice, it would be to start taking your life seriously now! Make a plan, execute that plan, speak up, and have CONFIDENCE in yourself.  Keep God in your life.  Be grateful.  And take advantage of the positive role models that you have within the Mobile Kappa League."
