Join Me This Saturday

Dear Stephanie,

I hope you and your family are well. I wanted to send you a brief update this Friday to share some important news and keep you in the loop about the latest happenings in our community.

I will be hosting a Mobile Drivers Services event Tomorrow, Saturday, May 6th, at the Fox Valley Mall. This will be a great opportunity to get your State ID, voter registration, or vehicle sticker updated. We will be located in the center courtyard near the MyPerks Lounge. I hope to see you there!

Congratulations to the over 250 High School Seniors in our district who earned the prestigious designation as an Illinois State Scholar! This achievement is no small feat, and your hard work and dedication have paid off in a big way. As you prepare for your next chapter, whether it's college, a career, or something else entirely, know that you have a bright future ahead of you. Keep up the great work!

On Thursday I attended the annual rememberance ceremony at the Illinois Police Memorial in Springfield honoring the police officers who died in the line of duty during 2022. From our area, we honored three law enforcement officers: Deputy Sherriff Michael Queeney who served at the Will County Sherriff's Office, Officer Brian Shields and Sgt Kenneth Thurman Sr who both served with the Aurora Police Department. We are forever grateful for their selflessness, bravery, and commitment to protecting our communities. Their legacy will never be forgotten, and we will continue to honor them every day.

Today closes out the 3rd-to-last week before the end of session. We have continued to make outstanding progress on a number of important measures, and I have highlighted some of them below.

As always, if you are visiting Springfield in the next couple weeks, please call my office or send me an email! I always prioritize meeting people from home, and I would love to show you around and hear what you have to say.

Take care,

P.S. Please reach out to our office if you need assistance at (630)-585-1308 or send me an email.

⚠️Scam Alert ⚠️

Kane State's Attorney, Sheriff Warm of Fake Treasurer Website

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Sheriff Ron Hain wish to warn the public about a fake website that purports to be the Kane County Treasurer’s site.

Anyone who encounters this site should not attempt to make a payment through it.

The authentic Kane County Treasurer’s site, www.kanecountytreasurer.org, has Kane County Treasurer Chris Lauzen pictured in the upper left. In addition, the tab to make an online payment has the Kane County seal in the upper left, the treasurer’s office address and telephone number in the upper right, and users must click on a terms of use agreement before they can search for their tax bill or make a payment.

The authentic site is secure. The fake site is not secure.

The fake site address is kanecountytreasure dot org. It includes several links, one for online payments, one for legal records, one for court documents, and one for vehicle registration renewal.

Kane County Sheriff’s investigators are looking into the fake site. Anyone with information about the fake site should call the Kane County Sheriff’s Office at (630) 444-1103.

Legislative Update

Illinois Set to Become First State to End Book Bans

House Bill 2789 is a landmark piece of legislation designed to prevent book banning in Illinois. The Bill allows Secretary of State Giannoulias’ office to authorize grant funding only to libraries that adhere to the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights -- which states that reading materials should not be removed or restricted because of partisan or personal disapproval -- or that issue a statement prohibiting the practice of banning books or resources. HB 2789 passed the Senate on Wednesay and is expected to be signed by the Governor.

Illinois Cracks Down on Prescription Drug Price Gouging

Big pharmaceutical corporations raising costs of generic prescription drugs could face serious financial penalties following legislation which just passed the State House of Representatives. House Bill 3957, which would make prescription drugs more affordable and accessible by cracking down on price gouging by big pharmaceutical companies. HB 3957 passed the House with Bipartisan support and is now being considered in the Senate.

Check out these other bills that I helped pass the house:
