June is coming to an end but opportunities remain open and available at the NCMM. While still accepting applications, the NCMM's One Call/One Click remote training opportunity application period closes June 30. Also closing soon is NCMM's application period for its Community Mobility Design Challenge 2020 (see more information below on both these opportunities). For individuals looking for an in-depth exploration of technology within mobility management, the Technology for Mobility Management framework can help you figure out where your service is currently, and where it's headed. NCMM's technologist and create of the framework, Kevin Chambers, has put together a video explaining how to best use the framework.

NCMM is offering a remote training opportunity on how communities can establish and/or expand existing One-Call/One-Click (OC/OC) systems. OC/OC systems "inform the public about all available transportation options for all populations in a given geographic area, enabling users to gain tailored trip information as well as book and pay for trips." NCMM is inviting communities who are interested in receiving this training to submit an expression of interest by June 30, 2020, 11:59 p.m. via NCMM's online form.

The National Center for Mobility Management (NCMM) has released the application for the Community Mobility Design Challenge 2020. These grants, funded by the Federal Transit Administration, will support communities in seeking innovative ways to address the personal wellbeing of community members that face transportation barriers to recreation and physical activities, healthy food, personal safety, economic opportunity, health care, or community and peer support opportunities.

The application deadline for this opportunity is July 6, 2020.

The NCMM's One Call/One Click (OC/OC) Resource Center developed with Civic Sphere LLC., is live. Aspects of an OC/OC system - such as trip information, booking, and payment - are discussed at length. In-depth case studies of current OC/OC systems are provided as well.

The webpage for the NCMM's technology typology for mobility management is now live. The goal is to give mobility managers a framework for understanding, comparing, and evaluating the value of the many different types of technology available in the community transportation sector. It is organized as an interactive matrix with columns covering the main technology areas of transit, with a click on each level showing an in-depth analysis of the scalability, accessibility and ease of implementation, among other criterion. An in-depth video explanation of how to use the framework is featured on the page.

Social isolation and loneliness are persistent societal problems, and lead to poorer population health outcomes, greater mortality, and greater health care spending. Older adults face unique risks related to social isolation and loneliness, largely because of the many major life transitions that they are likely to experience, including retirement, death of a spouse, death of other social contacts, and changing health and functional abilities. NCMM's new report, The Role of Transportation in Addressing Social Isolation in Older Adults, looks at these issues and summarizes key findings, showcases program examples, and offers recommendations for programmatic, policy, and research interventions to use public transportation to prevent and reduce social isolation and loneliness among older adults.

MMC Champions Opportunity

The NCMM has selected three mobility managers for the opportunity to serve as Mobility Management Champions for 9 months, from June until February 2021. The three selected Champions will serve as facilitators of monthly community activity on the NCMM's online forum, the Mobility Management Connections, disseminate resources and tools of value to mobility management topics, and will write blogs for the NCMM's Mobility Lines blog.

The Federal Coordinating Council on Access and Mobility (CCAM) has published its CCAM Federal Fund Braiding Guide. Federal fund braiding for local match, also referred to as Federal fund braiding, is when funds from one Federal program are used to meet the match requirements of another. Section 200.306(b) of Title 2, Code of Federal Regulations, prohibits Federal fund braiding for local match "except where the Federal statute authorizing a program specifically provides that Federal funds made available for such program can be applied to matching or cost sharing requirements of other Federal programs."

 

In total, 61 programs were examined out of the 130 Federal programs that may provide funding for human service transportation for people with disabilities, older adults, and/or individuals of low income. Based on the input from each participating agency, this guide defines Federal fund braiding for local match and program eligibility to enable Federal agencies and Federal grant recipients to more effectively manage Federal funds and coordinate human service transportation.

On July 23 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. ET, MassMobility and the Moving Maine Network will host a peer learning webinar on inclusive transportation planning. Hear from three initiatives - two in Massachusetts and one in Maine - that are working to increase the role that older adults and people with disabilities play in planning and implementing community transportation services. Advanced registration is recommended.

Created by Busing on the Lookout, a program of Truckers Against Trafficking, the new toolkit is intended to guide transit agencies on steps they can take to help combat human trafficking. " Transit on the Lookout To Combat Human Trafficking: A Toolkit for Public Transit Agencies in the United States & Canada" also includes strategies for partnering with Busing on the Lookout (BOTL) to implement anti-human trafficking training and policies in their operations.

The website for the National Center for Applied Transit Technology is now live! FYI - the Coordinating Council on Access and Mobility (CCAM) just published a its CCAM Federal Fund Braiding Guide. Small urban and rural agencies will have access to a growing resource library in N-CATT's Tech University to help them think about and apply the ever-changing menu of transit technologies available to their operations. The website will track the countless internal and external opportunities for technical assistance in new and innovative projects for transit systems and their communities.

On July 9, 2020 (2:00 p.m. ET), N-CATT will offer a webinar on Mobility as a Service (MaaS). MaaS is often touted as a revolutionary solution to optimize passenger transportation convenience primarily in an urban environment. MaaS revolves around the integration of various forms of transportation services into a single mobility service accessible on demand - in general, a one-stop shop to get from point A to point B. Advanced registration is recommended.
