Mobility Management News: November 2020
|
|
Hello all,
As we have all been made well aware of over the past year, the health of our communities is critically important to the well-being of our society. A large, but not often connected component of health and well-being, is transportation. The NCMM's new Health and Transportation Resource Center explores the intersection of transportation, health care, and public health in-depth. Pulling from NCMM literature, relevant news, and current reports, the resource center provides a starting point for those working around mobility management to learn more about how communities can best integrate mobility and health. It's valuable to know about the ways access to, and use of, certain transportation and mobility technologies can impact people's health - this resource center is a good introduction to them.
The NCMM is also excited to announce a new compilation of the ways transit systems can provide services addressing the health and well-being of their communities. These incidental uses, that go beyond traditional transit trips, show how important transit and mobility systems are in addressing the needs of their communities and how working with local organizations can further the reach of transit's offerings.
As this month draws to a close, consider the ways health and transportation interconnect in your community - and what you might be able to do to make sure all in your community are as healthy as they can be.
Take care of yourself and stay well,
Kirby Wilhelm

Coordinating Council on Access and Mobility (CCAM) Products Create Partnership Opportunities
|
|
Recently the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), supported by NCMM, hosted a Webinar providing an overview of its CCAM Report to the President. As part of the overview, FTA introduced the field to three important CCAM tools that can be useful to mobility management professionals and their networks:
-
CCAM Program Inventory: In total, the CCAM identified 130 Federal programs as of October 2019 that may fund human services transportation for the individuals with disabilities, older adults, and those with low income.
-
CCAM Federal Fund Braiding Guide: The Federal Fund Braiding Guide defines Federal fund braiding for local match and program eligibility to enable Federal agencies and grant recipients more effectively manage federal funds and coordinate human services transportation. Federal fund braiding for local match (or "Federal fund braiding") is when Federal funds from one grant program are used to fulfill the local match requirement of another Federal grant. Federal fund braiding can be especially beneficial for grantees that have difficulty acquiring match funds for transportation projects.
-
CCAM Cost-Sharing Policy Statement: The FAST Act required the CCAM to create a cost-sharing policy with a nonemergency medical transportation (NEMT) component. The Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Transportation, and Department of Veterans Affairs worked together to develop the CCAM Cost-Sharing Policy Statement, which was later endorsed by all 11 CCAM agencies.
NCMM is helping the field use these tools to advance coordination and mobility management. Contact your regional liaison for technical assistance support.

Incidental Uses of Transit Vehicles during the
COVID-19 Pandemic with CCAM Partners
|
|
The Federal Transit Administration and NCMM have compiled examples of how transit agencies are partnering to respond to identified community needs during the pandemic. The location of the incidental use, agency and partners, activities conducted, and other information are displayed in a table on the NCMM website. This table provides a good overview of the ways transit agencies have pivoted to new and innovative services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mobility Management Connections' Conversation
|
|
NCMM hosted its second Mobility Management Connections Conversations meeting via Zoom on Oct. 13. The meeting featured Chris Blankenship and Katherine Newman from the Virginia Association of Mobility Managers, who discussed how they built mobility management networks within their state and offered lessons for mobility managers looking to complete similar efforts in their own states. A breakout into smaller virtual rooms with dedicated topics occurred. Breakout rooms included: vehicle coordination, funding, partnerships, volunteer drivers, outreach, and innovation.
The first iteration of MMC Conversations centered around the impacts of COVID-19 on mobility management, new roles of mobility management practitioners, and how mobility management professionals are meeting the needs of our communities. You can access the archived conversation here.

If you are functioning as a mobility management professional, regardless of your job title, we're asking you to share your job description. NCMM currently keeps a compilation of job descriptions of mobility management practitioners on its website and would like to update it. These postings help to suggest requirements for future mobility management jobs, as well as help determine the various responsibilities of those in working in the realm of mobility management.
If you'd like to share a mobility management job description, please email Kirby Wilhelm at wilhelm@ctaa.org with the description attached as a PDF.
