LEADING PEDESTRIAN INTERVAL (LPI)

A leading pedestrian interval (LPI) gives pedestrians the opportunity to enter an intersection 3-7 seconds before vehicles are given a green indication. With this head start, pedestrians can better establish their presence in the crosswalk before vehicles have priority to turn left.

BTACTICAL WENT OFF WITHOUT A HITCH

The BTactical Lake Ridge installation was a success! You may now see pretty birds flying along NE 15th avenue in the freshly painted protected bike lanes. The Broward MPO partnered with the City of Fort Lauderdale and the Lake Ridge Civic Association to address multimodal safety, accessibility, and connectivity. During the four-day installation, volunteers of all ages helped paint striped bike lanes, curb extensions, crosswalks, asphalt art, and plant lush landscaping to further enhance the pedestrian experience and connect the Lake Ridge Community!
SMARTH GROWTH PARTNERSHIP AWARDS
The Broward MPO and the City of Deerfield Beach were awarded the Smart Growth Excellence Community Assets Award for the BTactical project: NE 3rd Avenue-Make Broward Better at Tedder. Smart Growth Partnership recognizes projects, policies, and communities that have used approaches that involve a wide variety of stakeholders and are innovative yet could be replicated elsewhere. These awards honor public-and private-sector entities that successfully use Smart Growth Principles to improve quality of life while preserving the environment and protecting public health. The MPO and the City were awarded one of three prestigious awards!
ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS

It's Electric! The City of Deerfield Beach and Florida Power and Light (FPL) partnered to install six electric vehicle charging stations at the main beach parking lot. Charging is free to users, connected to the FPL EVoltuion research program.

TRANSPORTATION 101: BIKE LANES

You probably see a variety of bike lanes on your daily commute, but do you know their purpose? Here are a few bike lanes that you may have encountered.

Buffered bike lanes: dedicated lanes for bikes, with the added benefit of putting extra space between cyclists and passing cars typically one to two feet.

Protected bike lanes: clearly delineate space on the road for bikes and prevent cars from crossing into that space. Physical barriers such as plastic bollards, on-street parking, and planters are often used for protected bike lanes.

Sharrows:  serve as a visual reminder that space on the road is meant to be shared by bikes and cars.
