Bridging Continents to Reduce Waste:

Cross-Cultural Civic Science in Houston and Ghana!

Tricon Energy and CELF are announcing a new cross-border collaboration (press release here). Tricon's sponsorship will support schools in Houston's environmental justice communities together with schools in Ghana's Eastern Region to take part in CELF's professional learning and student engagement programs. This partnership will support educators and student civic scientists on both continents as they use evidence to promote zero waste strategies and the circular economy in their schools and communities.

Houston schools will take part in CELF's 2022 Summer Institutes, Civic Science and Green Careers programs. High school students in Ghana will experience similar initiatives with a focus on the emerging recycling movement in West Africa (government roadmap here)CELF will collaborate with the NGO Youth and Women Empowerment (YOWE) to support implementation in Ghana.

Looking ahead to the Spring 2023 CELF Student Symposium, these students will be able to join peers from around the globe to share and present their projects in a virtual interactive setting.

CELF Leadership Circle Spotlight

Nancy Kralik, Sustainability Group Chair at Fluor, on her commitment to CELF's sustainability education work:

"Sustainability is significant to me, both personally and professionally. I lead the sustainability program in Fluor Corporation, and we have an exciting initiative to reduce our operating emissions to zero by the end of next year. This initiative will benefit our stakeholders, Fluor, and most critically the planet. The ability to be involved in the environmental education of our children is critical to providing the next generation of talent to formulate and manage similar initiatives."
