Most of our vendors have the option of making their rugs in custom sizes. Some vendors can make completely custom rugs. For woven and tufted rugs, this process generally takes 8 to 12 weeks. For loomed and knotted rugs, this could take 4 to 8 months.

The first step is finding a pattern you like, or creating a sketch of the pattern you want. If you can find a pattern that the company is already using, it greatly reduces the cost and time to make your rug. From there, colors need to be selected. Once the colors and pattern are defined, the vendor will create renderings for approval. Above is an example of how the vendor takes a blue and grey rug they already make, and edit it to make a custom black, grey, and white rug.

After approving the rendering, the next step is to have a strike-off made. This usually takes about 1 month to receive. Once the strike-off is received and approved, it is time to finally start making the rug.  

The process to create your custom piece can take 1 to 2 months, this is in addition to the 8 to 12 weeks, or the 4 to 8 months that it takes to make it. As discussed in previous articles, time is the most important part of this process. A rug can be custom made to enhance any design, but the process takes extra time and patience.
