ALTURAS, Calif., Oct. 26, 2022- Modoc National Forest fire officials say lower temperatures, higher humidity, and increased fuel moisture have lowered fire danger on the forest. With Fall officially in full swing cooler, wetter weather conditions have allowed the Modoc National Forest fire restrictions to be lifted on October 24, 2022.
Forest visitors may once again have campfires outside of developed campgrounds and recreation sites, although California campfire permits are still required.
Mike Crites acting Assistant Modoc Fire Management Officer reminds the public,
“Lifting the restrictions does not mean people can be careless with fire. Although campfires and smoking will be allowed throughout the forest, people should ensure that they properly extinguish their campfires, never leave a campfire unattended, and use ashtrays to dispose of their cigarettes.”
Campers should make sure they have a shovel and sufficient water to extinguish their campfire completely before leaving the area. Please do your part in preventing human-caused fires.
The Burn permit suspension in Lassen, Modoc, and Plumas Counties has also been lifted as of October 24, 2022, Per CAL FIRE LMU officials. Those possessing current and valid agriculture and residential burn permits can now resume burning on permissible burn days with no restriction on hours. Agricultural burns must be inspected by CAL FIRE before burning until the end of the peak fire season. Property owners and residents are asked to use caution while conducting debris or agriculture burns, follow all guidelines provided, and always maintain control of the fire.
