Rochester, NY - (January 4, 2018)  - The U.S. Patent Office has awarded patent no. 9,859,505 to Molecular Glasses, Inc. for " Charge-transporting molecular glass mixtures, luminescent molecular glass mixtures, or combinations thereof or organic light emitting diodes and other organic electronics and photonics applications ."

The patent abstract reads as follows:
The present invention provides charge transporting molecular glass mixtures, luminescent molecular glass mixtures, or combinations thereof comprising at least two non-polymeric compounds each independently corresponding to the structure (R1Y1)p [(Z1Y2)mR2Y3JnZ2Y4R3   wherein m is zero or one; n is zero up to an integer at which said compound starts to become a polymer; p is an integer of from one to eight; each R1 and R3 is independently a monovalent aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an aromatic group or a multi-cyclic aromatic nucleus; R2, Z1, and Z2 each independently represent multivalent aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon groups having 1 to 20 carbon atoms or an aromatic group; and Y1, Y2, Y3, and Y4 each independently represent one or more linking groups.

According to Mike Molaire, Molecular Glasses' CEO and Founder, "This patent was our first relating to non-crystallizable organic semiconductors. Additional ones are in progress.
"
The intellectual property covers a broad class of OLED materials that are highly soluble, including in "green" solvents. These molecular glass mixtures can be coated by the traditional thermal/vacuum process, as well as by solution processes, such as inkjet printing, slot die, spin coating, gravure and other coating techniques. Their ability to dissolve emitter materials at very high concentration, while keeping them in an amorphous state will contribute to longer-life and more robust OLEDS."
"
This invention is very important for us, says Molaire.   It allows 28 claims, including independent claims covering composition of matter, synthetic processes, and electronic devices such as organic light emitting diodes, solar cells, filed-effect transistors, and photonic devices."

Molecular Glasses has an additional 17 patents pending.

About Molecular Glasses, Inc.

Molecular Glasses, Inc. is a supplier of patented materials to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED) for use in displays (cell phones and tablets for example) and lighting. These materials will enable OEMs to produce OLEDs with longer life, higher light output, lower power consumption, and reduced manufacturing costs. This new class of materials is fully compatible with both the current thermal/vacuum deposition manufacturing processes and the emerging printing manufacturing processes (ink-jet, roll-to-roll, etc.). Molecular Glasses will derive revenue both from the licensing of patents and the sale of materials.  www.molecularglasses.com
