Momentum Is Building!
Dear Friends,
Spring is on the horizon and so is hope for New Mexico. As we plow through the fight to stop multiple bad bills through referendum, something is brewing in the people we’re meeting. There’s an energy that hasn’t been there in the recent past; an excitement over the efforts to take back our state and fight for our families.
The Secretary of State continues to try to stop our Referendums, but we will not back down. Just this week we have begun to circulate the Referendum for HB7 and have already received hundreds of signatures! Our goal is set to collect 200,000 within the next 2 months and we need your help!
If you've already volunteered to help us collect signatures, you should be receiving a phone call or email soon from your County Captain. If you have not signed up to volunteer, but would like to get involved, please click HERE to fill out the survey of how you'd like to participate.
Now that we have begun circulating the HB7 petition, be on the lookout for tables or events in your area so that you can sign the petition to stop this bill! Please note, you cannot sign the petition electronically, we need handwritten signatures on our official petition pages in order for them to count!
Before you Sign...
As you look for an opportunity to sign the petition, there are a few things you can do to be prepared...
|
Verify that you are a
Qualified Elector!
Only qualified electors can sign the petition form. To be a qualified elector, you must be (1)a U.S. Citizen, (2)18 years or older, and (3)legally reside in the New Mexico county that is labeled on the petition you are signing. If you are a qualified elector residing in Bernalillo County, you must be sure to sign the Bernalillo Petition.
|
Bring what is needed!
If you are a qualified elector who is registered to vote, you do not need to bring an ID with you. If you are a qualified elector and you are NOT registered to vote, you must bring a copy of your ID that can be filed with the petition. Make a copy and bring it, or allow our volunteers to take a photo of your ID to print later. We cannot accept your signature on the petition as a non-registered voter if you do not have the copy of your ID for us to file with the petition.
|
Know Your Precinct!
When you sign a petition, you will be asked to legibly write your name, complete Address, PO Box (if applicable), and Precinct number.
To save time at the signing table, look up your info ahead of time by clicking HERE. After entering your name, birthdate, and county, you will see all of the info you will need for signing. Write it down, or take a screen shot of it on your smartphone to show your petition volunteer. Having this info ready will save time for you, and will greatly help our volunteers to verify the necessary information.
|
Keep Track of what you've signed!
With so many volunteers trying to collect signatures, and so many bills being petitioned (there are 5 total petitions you need to sign), you need to be sure to keep track of what you've signed. You CANNOT sign a petition for one bill more than once. When you sign your first petition in our Referendum Project, you will get a "Referendum Tracker" card at the table. This card will help you know which petitions you've signed so that you don't accidentally sign the same one twice! Once you get that card, keep it in your wallet for easy access the next time you see a petition opportunity.
|
|
Stay tuned for petition opportunities!
Tables will be popping up, events will be in each county, and volunteers will be knocking doors! We will keep you informed on where and when you can sign petitions so be sure to check in, share the emails, and tell everyone you know about the Referendum Project!
Want to help support the project financially?
There are many expenses that our organization and the others in our coalition are incurring in order to get our volunteers the resources they need and spread awareness across the state.
