Inspired by the restorative connection between nature and wellness, and anchored by performance and sustainability, Natural Attraction by Stinson focuses on an affinity for the natural world around us. A walk in the woods, the pitter patter of rain, the swirling, soothing sensations of water currents, the tiny pebbles at the bottom of a flowing stream, each of these creates a positive art form now translated to high-performance textiles specifically designed for healing environments.
From soft pastels to deep saturated jewel tones, the colors, textures and patterns have been designed to complement healing environments. Upon first glance, taking cues from nature, it is easy to feel and understand that the collection is focused on a sense of calm and well-being. The simple yet sophisticated textures and patterns can be intermingled depending on the intended environment or application. The privacy curtain, Echo, has been designed to work with the upholstery surfaces. Other finishes and surfaces commonly used in healthcare have been considered.

By Sara Marberry — “Is your building ethically sourced, without forced labor, as well as sustainably designed?” That’s the question asked by the founders of Design for Freedom, a movement started in 2020 by the Grace Farms Foundation to eliminate modern slavery in the built environment. Its working group first focused on developing ethical labor practices on construction sites, but is now looking at the building materials supply chain — including subcontractors, manufacturers, and commodities-level providers — and trying to establish guidelines for ethically sourced materials.
How big is the problem?
According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), almost 25 million people are held in servitude for forced labor worldwide, and about 152 million children ages 5-17 are subjected to child labor. The raw and composite materials in the supply chain at the highest risk of embedded slavery are: bricks, copper, glass, minerals, polysilicon / solar panels, precursors (compounds and minerals used in the manufacturing process), rubber, steel and iron, stone, textiles and timber.
According to Design for Freedom, brick is one of the most used at-risk materials.

Standalone wireless system FirstLink by Bodine integrates all necessary emergency lighting components and monitors the status of the lighting system at all times, helping you maintain code compliance with virtually zero effort. The FirstLink emergency egress system comprises enabled exit signs, wall packs, emergency LED drivers and the FirstLink app installed on a mobile device. Instead of staff shuffling around a facility, climbing ladders, and pushing buttons to test individual units, FirstLink components automatically perform all required testing. The app downloads the status of all devices and creates an easily exported report. A wireless mesh network ensures reliable connections, even during the loss of individual devices. If the app can communicate with just one device, the status of all devices can be read. Once the status is downloaded, the data is uploaded to the cloud.
FirstLink emergency lighting system components can be easily installed by a contractor or end-user, making it field-install friendly. FMs can quickly add new products, accessories and features without updating the existing FirstLink hardware in the building. The easy-to-navigate FirstLink smartphone application allows users to configure a system, view and export results, change testing schedules, and more. For a painfully funny look at why you need Bodine’s FirstLink, check out this video as well: “Emergency Lighting Testing — Before FirstLink."

Having outgrown its existing primary care and physical therapy clinic, SSM Health turned to healthcare experts KAI Enterprises to design and build a state-of-the-art, expanded outpatient center in Warrenton, Missouri. The recently completed 15,600-square-foot clinic, located at 18800 Schnucks Drive, is more than double the size of its previous space, fulfilling a great need for the region. KAI’s in-house engineering group also provided MEPFP document review for the $4.3 million facility.
Located on a 3.6+ acre lot along an Interstate 70 corridor, the highly visible SSM Health Medical Group building features a full-glass enclosure as its exterior focal point, an oversized canopy over its entrance, and a wood and stone façade to project a warm, inviting space. The facility’s interior and its 18 exam rooms are infused with calming wood tones and natural light, all centered around a centralized workstation. The center’s physical therapy space includes both adult and pediatric gyms along with treatment rooms. A lab suite contains a waiting area, nursing station, lab draw space and a workroom. A large waiting lounge welcomes patients in a bright and calming space and support areas include offices, a shared workroom and a staff break room. Care was taken by KAI to specify sustainable, flexible and durable materials throughout the facility’s design.
