The Hidden Pandemic: Introducing an Innovative Solution to Promoting Mental Health for High School Students

Hear from a panel of experts, including a parent, a Jed Foundation High School leader, and other esteemed mental health advocates discuss the importance of addressing suicide among high school students. The Jed Foundation will unveil their new comprehensive approach that supports high schools to meet the mental health needs of students.

Did you know...
  • Tobacco use is the number one cause of preventable death among Black Americans, claiming 45,000 Black lives each year.
  • Black Americans are disproportionately impacted by tobacco use and die at higher rates than other groups from tobacco-related diseases such as cancer, heart disease and stroke.
  • Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the Black community.

The Campaign for the Culture is an initiative of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids focused on uniting, empowering, educating and engaging people of color and other targeted communities around critical healthcare and human rights issues connected to tobacco use, with the goal of inspiring young community members to avoid or quit tobacco use. Register now for the first event on February 24th.

In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of the Surgeon General, the Action Alliance and its partners helped to develop The Surgeon General's Call to Action to Implement the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (Call to Action). The Call to Action identifies six key actions that must be prioritized and implemented now in order to reverse the upward trend of suicide deaths in the U.S. Read the document.

16-year old overdoses from drugs bought on Snapchat

Dr. Laura Berman and her husband, Samuel Chapman, are mourning the loss of their 16-year-old son, Sammy, who died of an accidental drug overdose on Sunday. "He asked his dad for a cheeseburger," Berman told NBC News' Kate Snow.
