New Arrivals & Deals
Bubbly*********************************************************
Emendis "Nu Allonge" Cava Brut, Spain, Reg. $14.99, Sale $12.99
These are definitely "next step up" Cavas for a very reasonable price.
Emendis "Nu Allonge" Cava Brut Rose, Spain, Reg. $14.99, Sale $12.99
Bollinger Rose Champagne NV, France, $122.99
"Lacy in texture, with bright, well-knit acidity and a streak of chalky minerality underscoring the suble flavors of strawberry, white peach, fresh giner and crystallized honey. A hint of salted almond lingers on the finish. Drink now through 2020. " 92pts WS
Chateau de Bligny Grande Reserve Brut Champagne NV, France, $47.99
"This balances a streamlined frame and racy acidity with integrated flavors of ripe Honeycrisp apple, apricot, tangerine, toasted nuts and a hint of brioche. Lingering nut-tinged finish." 90pts WS
Whites*********************************************************
Baumard Savennieres 2014, Loire Valley, France, $26.99
"This is Chenin Blanc at its driest and crispest. The steely brightness that this shows in its first year in the bottle has started to give way to some slightly more honeyed texture, but is still zesty overall with white fruits, salinity, almonds and hazelnut. This wine will live for decades if stored properly, but it's so good now, why wait?" DM
Caves de La Loire "Les Anges" Sauvignon Blanc 2016, Loire Valley, France, $11.99
Another cool value Sauv Blanc from the Loire - taste it with us Friday!
Koehler Ruprecht Pinot Blanc Kabinett Trocken 2013, Pfalz, Germany, $19.99
Several members of our staff attended a large distributor tasting and picked this as our favorite white wine (out 50 or more). A warning though - if you ask Doug (the tall guy) about this wine, he might not stop talking in time for you to get home for dinner. Taste it with us Friday!
Stift Goettweig Messwein Gruner Veltliner 2016, Austria, $17.99
"When I tasted this, I was thinking this must be expensive Gruner; I was shocked to learn otherwise. It doesn't hurt that it is super fresh. The citrus fruit really jumps here, but it is hardly one-dimensional. There is grassiness and minerality to add interest." DM, This vintage hasn't yet been rated, but the previous two were both rated 90pts in Wine Enthusiast.
Elena Walch "Beyond the Clouds" 2014, Alto Adige, Italy, $64.99
"Rich notes of baked pineapple, lime blossom, lemon curd and exotic spice are set in a sleek, medium-bodied package, with well-knit racy acidity and smoky minerality focusing this into a clean-cut, lingering finish. Predominantly Chardonnay. Drink now through 2024." 91pts WS

Madonia Tenentino 2015, Emilia Romagna, Italy, $19.99
90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot
Altos Las Hormigas Malbec "Uco Valley Terroir" 2015, Argentina, $18.99
This is slated to be on the tasting block for Saturday!
Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, Chile, $10.99
""An attractive and delicate cabernet sauvignon with very fine tannins and bright fruit. Medium body. Black currant, walnut and wet earth. Delicious Chilean cabernet. Fantastic value. One of the best ever from here. Drink now." 92pts James Suckling
Bjornson Pinot Noir "Eola-Amity Hills" 2014, Oregon, $29.99
"Another transplanted Minnesota couple is making good in the wine game. We tasted these a couple weeks ago and we were really impressed. The quality of the vintage shows through in the darker berry fruit combining with a smoothness on the palate. It's no wonder Wine Spectator gave it 91 points. I might like it even better than that." DM
Bjornson Pinot Noir "Isablel" 2014, Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon, $57.99
"Amongst the 'Estate' level wines that we tasted, though some of them had garnered bigger numbers from the wine press, this was the clear standout for us. It combined both the power of the vintage and sheer elegance. Again, the darker-than-expected berries, more plum/kirsch than the typical cherry, make up a meaty core to the wine, but it's in the barrel toast, white pepper, touch of sweet spice, where this really sets itself apart. Give me more!" DM
Marietta Zinfandel "Roman" 2015, North Coast, CA, $26.99
"The 2015 Román is a gorgeous, Zinfandel-based red. Bright, plump and exuberant, the 2015 offers striking depth as well as freshness. This is an incredibly delicious, inviting wine. Even better, it is a tremendous value. Petite Syrah and Barbera round out the blend. Succulent red berry, spice, leather and floral notes add to the wine's silky personality." 90pts V
Seven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon "Columbia Valley" 2013, WA, $31.99
"The aromas of cedar, fresh dark berries, thyme, garden herbs and flowers provide instant appeal, with woodsy accents following. Lively plum and raspberry flavors back them up, with fine-grained tannins and barrel accents speckled throughout." 91pts Wine Enthusiast
Seven Hills "Walla Walla Red" 2014, WA, $31.99
"This is a show-stopper. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot. It spends 23 months in French Oak, of which 35% is new. This is the innaugural vintage of this Bordeaux-style red, but Seven Hills' expertise with Cabernet comes through with deep, dark berries, herbal and coffee notes. The fine-grained tannins could fool you into thinking you're drinking Left-Bank Bordeaux at 3 times the price!" DM
Double Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, Horse Heaven Hills, WA, $24.99
"Polished and well-structured, with floral blueberry and espresso aromas and layered blackberry, sandalwood and spice flavors that linger toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2023." 92pts WS
Seghesio Zinfandel "Cortina" 2013, Dry Creek, CA, $43.99
"This captures such a distinct sense of place it almost smells like Dry Creek Valley. Briary raspberry and smoky cinnamon aromas lead to complex, layered flavors of dried sage, licorice and dark cherry. Tannins sneak in on the finish. Drink now through 2024." 94pts WS, also 94pts WA
