From the Board ...

Greetings!

On Tuesday, October 20, 2020, we had a meaningful, thoughtful and challenging discussion about Theolory based on the ideas presented in Widening the Circle of Concern. We missed those of you who didn't attend. We need wide congregational feedback and sharing of ideas and ways forward to be more inclusive, in this case, faith traditions, practices and beliefs. Our next discussion is on November 1, 2020 at 6:30 pm. Mark your calendar and click on google meet in the calendar.

The Board has agreed to attend a virtual Board Development workshop presented by the Pacific Western Regional UUA. We will be able to learn and share with other UU Boards and regional leaders.

We also will have a Tech Workshop on the use of Breeze and Google Suites on November 7 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, all are welcome. We aim to be a learning Board!

The UUA is urging congregations to plan for the post election reaction in communities since there could be unrest and challenges to our members' safety, click here for the information. There is a UUA Guide to Becoming a Safer CongregationI encourage you to read it and look for Prairie UU congregational virtual gathering to better understand and respond to members' needs.

I hope you survived the cold on the 25th and are looking forward to a "warm winter."

In Covenant,

Vivian Littlefield, President
Rhonda’s Ribbons

Please join us for an important M2A meeting. The Unitarian Universalist's President, Susan Frederick-Gray calls us to prepare to defend democracy. Read her message here.

As a result Prairie's Pastor, AJ Blackwood, joins us to help lead us in doing a needs and resource mapping assessment as urged by the UUA president. "... we must also prepare for how we will continue to work for justice, democracy, and the protection of our loved ones and our communities after November 3rd. So much is uncertain, and rhetoric that encourages white supremacists to threaten public officials, watch polling locations, and that questions election results is dangerous."

Please let us know if you have any questions and we hope to see you there!

Please join us for this month’s Men’s Group!
We will be discussing what each of us may have learned as a result of some of the more difficult times we've experienced in our lives. Some of us have experienced a job loss, loss of a loved one, relationship issues, such as divorce...perhaps life-threatening accidents, illnesses...both physical or emotional. What 'positives' came out of these 'negative' experiences? We will have a short discussion after each story.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley's mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

Vote

  • As citizens and as Unitarian Universalists, we have the awesome responsibility and privilege of participating in our representative democracy. In Colorado voting is easy and virtually fool-proof. Remember to complete and submit your ballot well in advance of November 3 and to fill out your ballot from top to bottom. State and local governments have profound impacts on our lives and on redistricting that will soon occur. Educate yourselves about the 11 ballot measures by consulting the 2020 State Ballot Information Booklet (Blue Book.) If you have any questions about voting or about the ballot measures, you may contact Clark Huff at clarkh@prairieuu.org for assistance.

  • A Good Source for Election Information is here

  • A women's choice has been a long held resolution at the UUA general assemblies. Ballots are out and there are many propositions and amendments on them. Say NO to proposition 115 to support a Women's Choice. The Colorado 22-Week Abortion Ban Initiative (Proposition 115) would prohibit abortion procedures after 22 weeks of gestational age. Under the rule, an abortion after 22 weeks would only be permitted in an immediate life-threatening emergency with no exceptions for rape, incest, a lethal fetal diagnosis, or the health or medical needs of the patient. Abortion after 22 weeks only accounts for about 1% of total abortion procedures and in many cases is the result of major gestational complications that are found later in pregnancy. Any physician who performs an abortion after 22 weeks would be found in violation of this initiative and face criminal charges and suspension of their medical license by the Colorado Medical Board. This should remain a personal medical decision between a woman and her doctor, not the government. Women should have a choice, if they wish to continue a pregnancy.
